It's been literally decades since I last painted miniatures, so I'm still finding my feet going back to it. I used to use the old Citadel Miniature paints that came in tiny metal pots, which I think by the end of my time painting had moved onto plastic pots. I would be using Citadel/Games Workshop paints now if they didn't seem ridiculously expensive. So I did some research and found out that the Vallejo paints were highly regarded and a cheaper alternative. So I got them and have started painting a cool Dwarf Miniature that I found on Etsy (3d printed). I haven't got very far with the pairing yet, as I'm fitting out in between lots of other things and being a perfectionist I don't want to meet it up. I haven't used all of the colours yet, but the ones I have seem good to me. the colours go on well and I've also been trying the use of Acrylic follow improver to thin it down rather than use water. The results are good in my opinion, I just need more time to finish the miniature. If I am allowed to edit this post at a later stage I will add a picture of the completed miniature. I'm not sure I'll ever get back to the same level as my Golden Demon Award winning days!
In my opinion you get a good selection of colours for a more reasonable price and the paint itself seems to have good flow, consistency and coverage. There is an impressive range of colours available in the Vallejo range, as can be seen in the picture I've added, but this set contains 16 different colours including Black, White, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Metallic Gold and Metallic Silver, amongst others.
