This pen is slightly magical, it comes without any instructions on how to use it. "Instructions for a pen?" you ask incredulously. It takes a little working out how to get the writing implement you require. I wont spoil the fun though, once you work it out you'll have hours of fun watching your friends exasperate themselves trying to find the secret. (Well I did anyway) Incidently this is a great multi function pen/pencil and I would definitely recommend to others, I have but one gripe and that is with the eraser. The eraser can only be used by removing a metal cover on the top of the pen, unfortunately when you have the pencil deployed you cannot remove the metal cover, so you have to retract the pencil, pull the top off of the eraser and erase away. I have tried using the pencil without the eraser cover on, but found it difficult to extend further lead when needed. Bit of a design flaw from an otherwise excellent pen. Which is why it only gets 4 stars instead of 5.
I had tried to locate this pen for several months so was delighted to find it on Amazon. The first concern was that I couldn't find out out how to switch through the 3 functions. The supplied information made no sense at all. Then I found that after the lead wore down I could find no way to replace it. The pen was cast aside, unused until fairly recently. Tried again, unable to select another function, the pencil function totally useless, the selection process (clicking on the button at the end of the pen) did nothing and the refused to move when depressed. I am telling this sorry story as a warning to anyone who thinks they might like to own such a veratile tool,
I do love a gadget and I do love quality design, and here Rotring has produced one of my all time favourite pens. I have always used Rotring for their calligraphy pens and fine art pens. I love their mechanical pencils too. Rotring have always had a reputation for classy engineering and reliability. In this Tikky 3, you have all of these traits in abundance. 3 in 1 pen! The most practical solution I have ever come across. I use black for main written notes and highlight with red when i am marking. I also use a pencil for writing in text books and on music. The ingenious engineering design is so impressive. I have some of the best pens by some of the most renown brands, but my everyday go to pen is this Tikky 3. I loved it so much I bought my kids and wife one too!
Really great pen, it writes beautifully. I can understand why some people have difficulty selecting the colours but it's quite simple really it's gravity led. You just put the colour spot you want facing the ceiling and press the button.
