Having enjoyed "Pimpoint" so much last year I was eagerly awaiting a fresh installment of tunes from this riotous "death Jazz" outfit from Japan. "Planet Pimp" carries on in much the same vein. It's spikey, energetic, technically accomplished - all played very very fast. What I like about tracks like "Go Next," is that although much of the middle part sounds like organised chaos, it really hits the lines well, in other words the melodic sections of the tracks are very clear and structured. And it's not all a hundred miles an hour either. "Darkside," is a soft, well maintained composition that works around the piano well. Soil and Pimp remind me a lot of Horace Silver with the way they have this sense of when to revert back into the grooves. "Mingus Fan club" and "Mars" are typical - so vibrant and energetic the music bordering on madness. Some might be asking if this group have another gear but I really don't think they need one.
I loved it. Saw this group on an asian new station and they were very energetic. The CD contained that energy and so much more. If you like jazzy fusion type jazz you will love this CD.
