I had high hopes for this book, but was let down bih time. It's biggest problem is the kanji order. Ideally it would be ordered by on'yomi like a proper kanji dictionary, but even a by-radical method or from most common to least common method would be acceptable. Instead, the author has created some incomprehensible system, with no rhyme or reason to it. You can't just progress through the book to study due to the arbitrary order, and looking up each entry by reading in the back wastes SO much time. I would have at least given it two or three stars, but I also find Halpern's translations to be questionable or too vague to offer any clarity on actual meaning more often than not.
I picked this up and was a bit put off by the price, but it's fantastic! Plenty of detail and plenty of words. I've yet to encounter a word that wasn't in here, even though I've seen a few words that had kanji that didn't have full entries. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to look up words without a cell phone or electronic dictionary.
