The Galileo Gen 2 can be used as either an Arduino Clone or it can be used as a IOT platform when LINUX and Python are installed. One can get started using LINUX and Python on a Galileo Gen 2 by searching the Internet for help or by using the book "Internet of Things with Python". The book provides instructions for down loading a Yocto LINUX distribution and installing the Yocto image on a micro SD card.
The next steps are inserting the micro SD card in the Galileo Gen 2, connecting an Ethernet cable and connecting the the Intel supplied power adapter. Next instructions are provided for determining the boards IP address and connecting a SSH client to the Yocto Linux rerunning on the board. Python can use either the mraa and the upm library or the Wiring library to access the GPIO pins. Instructions are then given for determining the mraa and upm version numbers and upgrading to the latest version. Next pip a Python utility program is installed. Pip is used to download and install additional nodules for use with Python. The final installation step is an easy and quick test provided to test the installation.

The book is written for people with intermediate level
Python capability and beginners level electronics capability.
All of the code for the examples in the book is available
for download. Even though the author explains what each line
of code does a Python beginner reading the code may be
bewildered by the syntax.
