Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) goes about his regimented mundane life as an IRS agent. Until one day he hears a voice in his head narrating his life. He confronts a psychiatrist (Linda Hunt) who informs him that that is schizophrenia. He says no it is just a voice in his head and the psychiatrist says that is schizophrenia. Turns out he may be a character in a book and his days are numbered. Can he figure this out in time to save his bacon? He enlists the help of a literally literary professor (Dustin Hoffman) to help in the quest. In the way he may even have time enough for love (Maggie Gyllenhaal.)
The world inside worlds theme is not new or unique. See the film “The Thirteenth Floor” (1999) or read the book” Sophie's World: A Novel about the History of Philosophy” by Jostein Gaarder .However it is how the story is executed and the skill of the actors to involve us that makes this presentation excel.
