I was hesitant on buying this version of FF1, but honestly I'm so glad I did. I'm playing on the fire HD 10 plus and the game runs beautifully. The tap control options are actually pretty good. The music is awesome, and the overall package is nice. After experiencing this game first hand I have to say it's perfect. I played for almost two hours straight and did not have any issues whatsoever.
The only negative thing I have to say about the graphics is that the water effects in towns don't really match the shape, very well, and look more at place in pools. Still looks good, just a bit weird.
Otherwise, the graphics are good. The combat graphics are extremely true to the original art so it's very familiar yet much higher resolution. Sound effects are the same way.
The music is great. The inclusion of a player on the menu is quite welcome, in fact.
Game plays very much like the original, but with a few tweaks to make your life easier. Most notable is retargetting when a monster dies. (Most ports added that) The ability to save anywhere on the overworld is also welcome. (Some ports added that) The next biggest is the inclusion of cheaper expendable items and the addition of ethers. The ability to recharge mana in a dungeon is a big departure from the original. (Purists can simply not buy ethers.)
You start off with more gear than in the original basically bypassing a few moments of early grinding.
I like all that.
Ah, but then we hit the negatives:
This game wasn't written to run efficiently, so it gobbles battery life and runs slowly.
Initial loading of the game runs around a minute on my phone. (a ~3 yo Galaxy) Load time for fights is multiple seconds. Cities are often 1-2 seconds more. Just opening the menu is slow and takes a couple seconds.
Worse, it sometimes just crashes. (I was beating the piscodemons down in marsh cave last time it happened) Have yet to spot a pattern.
This means that a random freeze might be a random encounter and it might be the game ending. Who knows?
(If you do get it... For the 15 square: touch and hold the ship while then tapping somewhere else on the screen)
