I have been on this kick lately, revisiting the old RPGs of my childhood. The nostalgia is pretty good, it would be even better if they hadn't dressed up the graphics to look better than just the 8-bit and 16-bit originals, but the sleeker finish is pleasing to the eye. I forgot how much bigger this one was compared to the first one, you can really see the expansiveness of the RPG genre beginning to flourish.
The UI just doesn't work. You have to repeatedly tap to make anything work. It makes the sound and sometimes the button lights up but it rarely has any effect and makes playing very laborious. No fun to be had here. EDIT- I thought it only fair to add that this honest revue is for the android versions of DQ 1 & 2 bought from the Amazon app store for use on my 2 Day old Nokia 5.1 Android Phone. You might have a different experience on a different set up but this app just did not perform on mine.
EDIT 2 - I have re installed both games and they now work fine.
5つ星のうち4.0An improvement? YES! Good improvement? YES...and no.

The first Dragon Quest game was a fun tiny adventure, even though the game did show its age in certain aspects of the gameplay; especially in the combat. I would say this game is more of the same, but forunately there were more improvements found here than in the previous title.
In DQ you were alone through-out your adventure, wandering from in a mid-sized world and getting stronger as you fought enemies one at a time. In DQ2 you eventually adventure along two other companions in a substainally larger world, getting stronger as you fight multiple monsters.
Having more members in your party made the adventure feel less lonely. Storywise, these characters are related to one another (they're your cousins) which created this bond between you and them.
Now the world is bigger (MUCH bigger) than the previous title. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's good because its gives you much to explore and discover. At the same time, you'll get lost easily until you fimiliarize yourself with the world. Since your going to be going back and forth trying to find important quest items, fighting legions of battles in between, this can make the game drag on for a long time.
This game; like the previous title, is shows its age. It retains many of the gameplay elements from its inital release in the 80's with quality of life additions for the mobile version. The game doesn't hold your hand and its up to you to figure out how to progress through it on your own.
This game is took me over 60 hours to complete! However the game is only $5. Again, your getting immese value for your purchase here. Recommended for players with a lot patience and tolerance.
