2008年にリニューアル？　して以降、毎年安定した記事のクオリティを維持しているシリーズ。

個人的に2012年の「グラヴィティデイズ」の記事が読みたくて、初めて出会った本だ。
本書は、月刊誌のCGWORLDに掲載された制作メイキング記事を拡大、再編した完全版的な意味合いがある。

その内容は、毎回、収録タイトルに使われている技術や手法の事例集で、各作品単位で見るとおよそ40～20ページと言ったボリュームだ。

設定資料的な面白さも少しはあるが、あくまでも本懐は技術的な事例集。
興味を持って読むだけでも面白いのだが、CGを実際に触ったり作る側の人間が「あれって、こうやってたのか」と言う事を、簡単ではあるが具体的に裏側を知られる事に価値がある風に思う。

ワイヤーフレーム、テクスチャ、ライティング、ポストアウトライン、ディフューズ、オクルージョン、UVマップ、バリエーション（差分）管理、合成例、ボディリグ、エフェクト、質感、フェイク表現、ベクター、UI、等々……の単語を、収録タイトルで説明されて「面白そう」「知りたい」と思えれば、買って幸せになれる。

なので、収録タイトルや、その表現手法に興味がそそられない作品が多いと感じる人にとっては、定価は高く感じるだろう。
でも、どうしても見たい1作があるのなら、それだけで値段相応に感じられる事もある。人それぞれ。

個人的には、やった事があったりよく知っている作品と言う事で、ドラゴンボールZ、龍が如く７、新サクラ大戦、ポケモン剣盾、グラブルヴァーサス、あたりの記事が特に面白く読めた。
知らない作品も、この記事を切欠に触ってみたいと思えるほど、美麗なグラフィックや工夫に溢れた裏側が見られて、それも面白い。

また、初心者向けに業界のマシンスペック傾向のアンケートや、実際にゲームCGを作ったソフトもタイトル毎に掲載されているので、「MAYAと○○であれを作れるのか」なんて事も分かるし、CGを始めたい人は、購入するべきマシンの参考にもなるかもしれない。

３DCG制作用のマシン買い替えの参考にもね。
