1988年に劇場公開され、漫画の域を超えてアニメの世界までも革新したアニメ映画版『AKIRA』。このアニメは原作者である大友克洋自身が、監督と脚本を務めるという異例の製作体制で作られながら、世界的な評価まで得ているという破格の名作である。本書は、そのアニメ版を製作するにあたり、大友自身が自ら描き上げた膨大な量の絵コンテを全2巻にまとめたものの第1巻にあたる。かつてヤングマガジン編集部から1988年に、同じく2分冊で刊行されていたが、短期間で絶版となって以来、長らくプレミア品となっていたレアアイテムが、「大友克洋全集」の第1期・第1回配本タイトルとして、遂に待望の復刻となる。これは単体の商品としては30年以上ぶりである。絵コンテというと、ラフに描かれた未完成な設計図と思われがちだが、本書のコンテの精密度は桁が違う。それもそのはず、著者がこれを描いたのは、映画版『AKIRA』製作のために漫画版の連載を中断していた1987年頃であり、単行本でいうと5巻の中盤を描いていた時期。連載バリバリ時期のテンションで描かれた絵コンテの緻密さやキャラクターの躍動感は、漫画本編に勝るとも劣らないレベルなのだ。なお本書はA、B、C、Dから成る全4パートの前半A・Bパートを完全収録し、全500ページ近い大ボリュームとなっている。眺めるだけでアニメ版『AKIRA』の映像が脳内に再生される「読む動画」の如き本書ゆえ、熟読すればするほど著者の驚異的なアニメ製作術に触れることができるはずだ。なお、書名の「Storyboards(ストーリーボード)」とは「絵コンテ」の英語表記である。

2013年、日本政府より紫綬褒章。2014年、フランス政府より芸術文化勲章オフィシェ。
2015年、第42回アングレーム国際漫画祭・最優秀賞(フランス)。

Katsuhiro Otomo (大友 克洋 Ōtomo Katsuhiro, born April 14, 1954) is a Japanese manga artist, screenwriter and film director. He is best known as the creator of the manga Akira and its animated film adaptation. He was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2005, promoted to Officier of the order in 2014, became the fourth manga artist ever inducted into the American Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2012, and was awarded the Purple Medal of Honor from the Japanese government in 2013. Otomo later received the Winsor McCay Award at the 41st Annie Awards in 2014 and the 2015 Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême, the first manga artist to receive the award.

宮崎駿のコンテと同じくほぼ漫画。と言うか音声付コマ漫画みたいな感じです。アニメ故の動かして次のキーフレームに進める為の動画然としたコマも勿論多数存在しますが、「絵に意味を持たせる、連続性を持たせる」と言う意味でこんなに価値のある資料はそうそう無いように思います。

このフィルムは何度も見ているので音声が再現されて来るようでした。

マッグガーデンの攻殻機動隊の演出指示資料集も同じ位ヤバかったですが、絵を描く人間は読んだ方が良いと思う。

「大友克洋全集」たまたま発売日に書店で見かけて考えた。
今更、買い直す必要性はあるのだろうか…と。

「童夢」はじめ、市販された単行本と映像作品はほぼ所有している。
シリーズの内容を確認すれば、単行本として出版されていない作品も含まれており、それだけをつまみ買いする選択肢は十分ある。

高校生で「童夢」に出会い衝撃を受け、38年。
あの時の感情は今でも鮮明だ。「童夢」は現在も私の魂の書であり、大友氏へのリスペクトは色あせてはいない。
あの頃と違うのは自由になるお金が少しだけ増えたことだけだ。しかし…

「AKIRA」の国際版単行本や映像の4Kリマスター版のように、同じ作品が技術や手法を変えて出版されてきた。同じコンテンツに何回出費するんだろうという気持ちは正直言ってぬぐい切れない。しかも毎回なかなかの値段だ。
今シリーズもコンプリートすれば10万円を軽く超える。●eAGOSTINIが頭をかすめる。

ネットでいろいろ情報を集めてみる。
一晩考えて…結局、買ってしまった。

結論としては、購入はあり。
「コンプリート」も「つまみ買い」も価値観と入れ込み具合、それと財布に合わせるといいと思う。

「Animation AKIRA Storyboards 1」に関して。映画の「AKIRA絵コンテ集 上巻」です。
アニメ版AKIRAの解読にはうってつけだと思います。結構な情報量です。
「AKIRA絵コンテ集」と比べると、右開きと左開きの違いがあります。ほかの巻と揃えるためでしょうか。好みの分かれるところだと思います。
「AKIRA絵コンテ集」の時は、Bパートの一部が下巻に収録されていましたが、Bパートすべてが、「1」に収録されています。コンテ集より薄くなっていますが、ページ数は多くなっています。紙質が良くなっているためと思われます。
印刷方法もカラーコピーのような感じで、映画タイトルが着色されていたり、そのページの下にシミがあったり。×が赤書きされていたり、を確認することができます。

初版特典や期ごとのコンプリート特典があるので、そちらをご希望の場合はそれなりに動く必要があります。（期ごとに応募できるTシャツは特にいらないけど…考え中です。）
さらに全（41冊予定）コンプリート特典（内容未定）があります。結構なトータル金額になりますので是非、マホガニーの専用書棚を所望いたします。

A brand new expansive collection of books of the complete works of Katsuhiro Otomo has been released in Japan, which spans his works across Manga and Anime. Volumes 21 & 22 collect together the Storyboards for his iconic film, AKIRA (1988). I ordered both and they arrived very quickly from Japan (to the UK) in excellent brand-new condition. They are paperback, with a plastic sleeve that offers both protection and style.

One of my favourite films and based off the manga by Otomo himself, the Storyboards were originally published in a two volume set back around the time of the films original release. However, they were incredibly hard to come by, other than really expensive second hand copies that would pop-up on eBay, as they were never republished since. However, now these new editions have been released so I'm happy.

There are other volumes available in this new series of Otomo's work, that feature further artwork from AKIRA, such as the animation layouts and the script too.

'Art of' books don't tend to feature many Storyboards at all anymore, though some films do release Storyboard specific volumes on the odd occasion (Blade Runner 2049, for example). The Studio Ghibli art of books don't contain any Storyboard art at all, instead, you have to find the Storyboard specific books that are only available from Japan.
