    Fearful of America now that Superman has arrived, the Russians create Metallo to destroy the Man of Steel and reassert dominance over the United States of America.

    Venditti's story captures the Reeve era wonderfully and is 'Superman' at its best, one man protecting all the people. The idea of Superman as both inspiration and aspiration is well conveyed and the climax is excellent. The artwork is a bit of a letdown. I would have liked to see a bit more of an attempt at making the characters resemble their on-screen counterparts.
