質問：ポール・マッカートニーが「Silly Love Songs（心のラヴ・ソング）」（原題は「バカげたラヴ・ソング」の意）を書いたのはいつ？答え：1976年以降ずっと。　この有名なジョークを思い出させるのが本作『Wings At The Speed Of Sound』だ。リリース後にポールの大々的なアメリカ・ツアーが開始され、その話題性も手伝って長らくチャートのトップに留まっていたアルバムである。また、前述の「Silly Love Songs（心のラヴ・ソング）」に加え、「Let 'Em In（幸せのノック）」がシングル化されヒットした。後者は前者を上回る人気を得たが、刺激にとぼしいという点ではどちらも同じようなものだ。

本作の出来は、好意的に見ても「まあまあ」という程度。『Band On The Run』（邦題『バンド・オン・ザ・ラン』）、『Venus and Mars』（邦題『ヴィーナス・アンド・マース』）と傑作が続いた後のアルバムだけに、肩透かしの感は強かった。ポール流の見事なロック・チューン「Beware My Love（愛の証し）」はうれしい驚きを与えてくれるが、アルバムの残りの部分を救うには至っていない。ポールは時々どうしようもなく甘ったるい感傷と砂糖菓子みたいなサウンドに溺れてしまうことがある。

3つのボーナス・トラックは、概してアルバム本編の曲より出来がいいと言える。「Walking in the Park with Eloise」（ポールの父親の作）、「Bridge on the River Suite」という2つのインスト・ナンバーは、当初カントリー・ハムズ名義で発表された。この2曲でポールは、ナッシュヴィルの伝説的ミュージシャンであるチェット・アトキンス、フロイド・クレイマーとチームを組んでいる。「Sally G」は「Junior's Farm」のB面に収録されていたカントリー色の強い曲だ。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

今も“現役“のPaul MaCartneyが、ある意味、より脂がのっている絶好調期のアルバム。
各メンバーがボーカルをする楽曲もあり、バンド的にもバランスのとれたアルバム。ロックファンなら必聴‼️

塵ひとつなく、無音部分はあくまで無音です。
センターホールは少しきつめですが、ちゃんと中心にあります。（笑）
水平方向の歪みもありません。
カートリッジの動きは静かです。
非常に良い盤質です。

懐かしい音です
究極のSillyLoveSong、重厚なLet'EmIn、
BewareMyLoveは個人的に大好きです
Wingsがバンドサウンドを出してきたアルバムですが後に崩壊という（笑）
偉大すぎるポールとバンドをやる人はいないのでしょうか？

CDは、ビニールに包まれてはいませんでした。紙のケースの背表紙が押しつぶされたようになっていて、商品紹介と違います。

「ウイングス」と改名したところで、結局はポールのワンマン・バンドじゃないか、という世評に抗するため、ポールは、この作品において、バンドのメンバー全員に最低１曲ずつ（デニーは２曲）ヴォーカルを取らせている（リンダの「Cook Of The House」だけは曲・歌と呼べるのかどうかという問題もあるが）。その結果、アルバム全体のクオリティは、過去の名作と比べて、明らかに落ちている、と思う。ただ、それを補って余りある、ビッグ・ヒット（名曲）が２曲収録されていることと、当時ウイングス自体の人気が絶頂期であったので、アルバムは売れに売れた（アメリカで７週連続１位：これはウイングスにとっても最高記録）。
…正直なところ、個人的に気に入っている曲は少ないが、とりあえず挙げていく。

・Let 'em In
名曲のひとつ。玄関ベル（マッカートニー家の玄関の音らしい）が鳴った後、ポールのピアノ弾き語り（色々な有
名人が歌われる）～鼓笛隊のような演奏、といたってシンプルながら、しみじみとした味が深く心に刺さる。
全米３位（但しビルボード：キャッシュボックスでは１位獲得）、全英２位。

・The Note You Never Wrote
デニー・レインが歌った曲では、このバンド史上、一番優れていると思う。これは、ポールがデニーのために作っ
た（贈った）曲。

・Wino Junko
ジミー・マッカロック（とコリン・アレン）の作。歌もジミー。再び、「アル中のため、薬（精神安定剤や麻薬）
の常用者になっている奴」のことが歌われている（懲りない男だ）が、この３年後（ウイングスは既に脱退していた）、彼自身が麻薬の過剰摂取による心臓発作で亡くなっている。
なお、私はマニアではないので、なぜ日本人女性と思われる名前がタイトルになっていたり、歌われているのかがわからなかったが、調べてみたところ、このタイトルは、「Wine Junkie（＝酒飲み野郎）」をイギリス英語風に呼び変えた、一種のあだ名？みたいなもの、ということらしい。

・Silly Love Songs
これがもう一つの名曲。非常にシンプルな演奏で、派手さもない。一聴すると、いたって普通っぽいが、どこか忘れがたい旋律、コーラス（サビ）が心に残る。
これはバンド史上でも特筆すべきビッグ・ヒットとなり、全米１位（５週：一度１週で１位から落ちたが、返り咲いて４週連続１位）、全英２位。
また、当時のシングル曲としては異例といえる、長い曲（約６分）でもある。

まさに老舗の味といった作品です。
Band on the RunやVenus and Marsのようにキャッチーな曲が多いわけでもなく、高い評価を得ているアルバムではないが、聴きこむほどに味わいが染み出す良作。
私が売れ線だと思う曲はSilly Love Songぐらいでこれはあまり好きな曲ではないのですが、他は飽きの来ない佳作ばかりで聴きやすいです。
決してワンマンバンドではないことを証明したかったのでしょうか、他のメンバーの作品もあり、半分ほどが他のメンバーがヴォーカルです。これがウイングスです。

「幸せのノック」、「心のラヴ・ソング」の両ヒット曲に加え、隠れた名曲「愛の証し」(Beware My Love)が収録されています。「愛の証し」はこのアルバムの中で一番好きな曲です。ポールファンは大満足の１枚でしょう。ただし、アルバム全１１曲中、ポールは６曲しか歌っていなく、残りの５曲はポール以外のメンバーが歌っています。正直言ってポール以外のボーカルの歌は興味がなくスキップしています。メンバー全員がボーカルをとるというのはウイングスとしてのバンドの一体感を強調したものなのでしょうが、そこまでする必要があったのでしょうかね、、、。ローリングストーンズやエアロスミスもボーカルは一人だけで他のメンバーは歌いませんが、バンドの一体感は強烈ですよね、、、。

Just about all of Paul McCartneys Albums are adventures in multiple genres, which is why going back to the WINGS and Paul McCartney collections which are both diverse and I suspect aimed at different audiences( WiNGS being one and Paul McCartney being another, however as most would know, there is a severe overlap). In the Classic sense Paul does Riffs or hooks at his best, but I am happy to find that ,like Bowie, the albums he released were very experimental in the true sense. He had songs which were the "Single" that sold like crazy ( in the case of this album, Tracks One and 6 ( Let Em in, and Silly Love Songs), but the mix is not as bass-y as I recall, but thats easily fixed on a sound system with an EQ. Paul shows time and again that even on the bass he makes some brilliant bass riffs, with Good Night tonight being possibly the best.
I like the remaster on this album, even with the diference in bass sound. And also tracks like Cook of the House are fun "discoveries", and hearing the song his dad wrote as a bonus track was a cool item. Also the similarly themed tracks 9 and 11 ( with track 9 sounding like Billy Joel) are fun and nicely emotional pieces. Also, track 14, SALLY G is a briliant country piece, that he could quite easily have sold under another peudonym like some authors, as prolific as Paul is in writing and performing. But as always, its a case of something for everyone.
Another brilliant album, which I am glad is still available, just like David Bowie's work as
well as YES ( all with Extras on the CDs).

This LP is so much better than I remembered. This is the 3rd LP of Wings' "Golden Era" - when the summers seemed to be dominated by Paul's latest single (Band On The Run/Listen To What The Man Said/Silly Love Songs)and each LP also threw at least one more good single up for mass consumption. This LP was released with 11 songs and each is good - really good. "Beware My Love" is one of the great neglected Paul songs, but Denny had a good one with "The Note You Never Wrote" and Jimmy had a good one with "Wino Junko" and even the drummer has a song on here that's good as well as "Cook of the House" which showcases the always underrated Linda (she really does have a nice voice and she can copy Paul's keyboard instructions quite well). San Ferry Anne is really good too and "She's My Baby" shows us where the future will take Paul. Wings was not the same after this, though London Town had some fine moments and so did Back To The Egg they would never be the mass-appeal monsters that we had seen from Paul through the mid 70s. Buy it & enjoy.

McCartney's attempt to spread the wealth doesn't fail because of his bandmates (after all, who expects anything from Denny Laine?), but rather the ordinary sounds coming from Paul himself.
"Let 'em In" is a good track to open the set. Solemn and well performed, it is a catchy song, good enough for Paul to get another top ten hit. It gets you ready for even better things. Denny's up next singing the McCartney written "The Note You Never Wrote," and it kills whatever momentum its predecessor laid at its doorsteps. It pretty much starts off going nowhere and stays there. "She's My Baby" is where Paul lets up. After the previous cut, this is where the disc needs a pick up and this is just a nothing song with lousy words. Starting slow and picking up steam, "Beware My Love" proves to be the meatiest cut on the set. It's a good song, however it fools you into thinking it's a raver when it's not really that fast at all. "Wino Junko" is simply Jimmmy McCulloch doing "Medicine Jar" lite. All it proves is that McCulloch is a one horse pony who could only write about booze and drugs and that this song is more poppy and less effective than his previous effort on "Venus and Mars." Many people have critized Linda McCartney (yes I am one them), however I do not find fault with her outing on "Cook of the House." Paul's production skills come most to the fore on songs that don't have a lot going for it---like this one. Here he uses the stand-up bass, the chewy horns, compression, reverb and deeper mixing on Linda's voice (to hide the flaws). A nice touch is also the way drummer Joe English goes to the toms after the second chorus instead of the snare like the first, it gives this shuffle a different feeling. "Silly Love Songs" is a good song, nothing more, nothing less. Fantastic threeway vocals introduce themselves in this song (indeed it's the highlight). It's success hides Paul's worsening skills as a lyricist, which is apparent all over this disc. His bass, however, is mixed very high in this song (and most of the album as well) in concession to the then burgeoning disco phase. Denny redeems himself with "Time to Hide." The fade up is interesting and a nice touch as well. His thin, weedy, pleading vocal fits this song like a glove. "Must Do Something About It" features a superb and surprising vocal from Joe English who proves he's easily the second best singer in this band. It's a good tune and McCartney wisely let Joe sing it as the words probably would not have sounded as sincere had Paul sung it. "San Ann Ferry" is another example of this disc needing a shot in the arm and Paul coming up short again. It's not that it's a horrible song, it's just that with all the other mediocre songs songs on this set, something with a little zip is needed and it doesn't happen with this song. "Warm and Beautiful," it takes a while to realize that Paul can still get to you with those sentimental songs, but he still can and here's proof. "Walking in the Park with Eloise" and "Bridge on the River Suite" are two instrumentals I could do without as they have nothing to do with this disc. And if we're going to get "Sally G" we should also get the A-side of the single that it was on---"Junior's Farm."
It's really noticeable to see the weakness of this set in that hardly any of these songs can be taken off the album and stand on their own. Whereas that problem was not evident in McCartney's last 3 discs.
