This is one of the funniest books I have read in a while. A crazy lady who teaches history by day and attempts dubious other jobs between teaching students. Add to the mix eccentric mother as well as friends and the fun begins
A principle teacher is found dead outside a strip club by the main character, Addison ,who happens to be employed at his school and recognises him inside the club while pole dancing. A sexy cop who leads the investigation is also attracted to Addison and this hinders the investigation as emotions runs high. Can Nick keep Addison safe while doing his job.
As the body count piles up around them, danger is everywhere. Can working for her friend's detective agency make the situation any easier? How many times can you be embarrassed in public view and hold your head high?
Will they ever have a proper date ? Can their relationship develop ? Read on to find out.

Whiskey Rebellion: An Addison Holmes Mystery (Addison Holmes Mysteries Book 1) (English Edition) Kindle版
Addison Holmes is a diamond in the rough, though she’s feeling more like a big lump of coal. Teaching history in Whiskey Bayou, Georgia isn’t exactly the most exciting job. Until she finds her principal dead in the parking lot of the seedy gentleman’s club.
When Addison finds herself out of a job, she turns to her best friend, Kate, who owns the McClean Detective Agency. Addison is a natural at the job. Living in a small town has given her all the skills she needs to spy on other people and pass silent judgment. Sometimes being nosy has its advantages.
When her principal’s murder reveals more Whiskey Bayou secrets than people are comfortable with, the suspect list grows longer than Addison’s arm. Fortunately, the detective in charge seems more than capable of finding the killer and driving her crazy at the same time.
What readers are saying:
"Fans of Stephanie Plum are going to love Addison Holmes."
“An entertaining, fun read.”
“This book is hysterical. It’s a true comedy of errors…A perfect summer read… lighthearted and funny”
”I haven’t read a book this funny since the first few Janet Evanovich books… A definite recommendation for everyone.”

This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine who said that she couldn't put it down and wasn't able to stop laughing through the whole of it so I gave it a try and I was pleasantly surprised that it was such a good bookfull stop as usually I'm not into privatising the murders but this book had a lovely way about it. In that we had Addison Holmes a down on her luck history teacher who is being evicted from her Condemned building and has nowhere to live so in order to try and save herself from destitute decides to try out at being a Stripper. But that doesn't go well and she gets fired on her first day where she goes outside and trips over Her Dead principal who just caught her in all her corset glory. Enter super hot detective Nick Who can't seem to leave Addison alone whether it's taking care of her or annoying her to the point of Distraction.
Addison uses her friendship with Kate an ex cop and Owner of a detective agency to becomes a temporary PI and looks into cases concerning adultery but on the way more people get killed and it all seems to lead back to Addison. Throwing a jealous blonde homewrecker and small town gossip that can destroy a person, Addison must find out who is Killing these people that she seems to find and why everyone seems to lead back to her. But the ending was not something I was prepared for.
This is an interesting book so I do say persevere, it's funny and witty and you're able to read it within a day. It's got murder, conspiracy, a hot sexy bloke, arch nemesis, small town people and more. I'm even surprised how Addison didn't kill herself on many occasions.

A definite for Stephanie Plum fans

I was of two minds about downloading this series because it was recommended to me as being a great choice for fans of the Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich
One for the Money (Stephanie Plum 01)
. I'm always wary of those kinds of recommendations because invariably they never match up to the original and Stephanie Plum is my all time favourite book series, one I've read a dozen times and still collect in paperback.
Anyway, I saw that the first book was free and decided to take a chance on it. I am so glad that I did. If you are in any way a fan of the Stephanie Plum books, my advice to you is to skip buying the singles of the Addison Holmes series and head straight for the omnibus because I guarantee you're going to love it. I've read the entire five book series in just over 2 days.
There's clearly a formula for this type of books and the characters in this are homogeneous with those of the SP series - Addison is Stephanie (with all her clumsy and disaster prone attributes), Dempsey is Morelli, Savage is Ranger, Rosemarie is Lula, Wendy Valentine is Joyce Barnhardt and Aunt Scarlet is a Grandma Mazur character for the ages. Whiskey Bayou is similar in many ways to The Burg with the way news travels etc. The stories have the same laugh out loud humour (and when I say that I mean I literally laughed out loud, once so hard I thought I'd hurt myself), blend of romance and temptation, and social commentary that made me fall in love with the SP series. But that's where the similarities end.
The stories are so original that the series are entirely separate in my thoughts and therefore my affections. I really, REALLY enjoyed these. The actual plots are intriguing and absorbing, the crimes being gruesome enough to offset the zany humour of the people investigating them. The characters have real depth and vibrancy. It's hard not to love them. The writing style is great - the stories flow at a fast pace and they're told with a warm and consistent voice. I like the way the books always start with a disaster and then you find out the long and involved story about how she got there. Despite the character similarities, their roles are so different that it's easy to differentiate between the series.
The books do have their flaws. They get shorter as the series progresses, perhaps because there aren't so many side plots in the latter books as there were in the early ones. There are also a handful of spelling errors in each book, more again in the latter books, but not so many as to be noticeable to anyone that's less picky than me about copy editing. There are also a couple of whopping continuity errors, not least the one where Addison gets her hair cut into a bob and then later claims she's never cut her long hair. I also wasn't convinced by her choice of man, but I think that's because I was personally rooting for the other guy so that's perhaps a reader flaw more than a book flaw.
I loved this series enough that I awarded five stars despite the above faults. I loved them enough that I just didn't care lol. I'm going to start collecting them in paperback, which is the highest honour I can award a series, and have every intention of reading them again and downloading other work by this author.
I would thoroughly recommend this series, even if you haven't read the Stephanie Plum books. Read these and then read those. You can thank me later.

Light & funny but too many OTT situations & injuries in quick succession

I have to admit to having this freebie on my kindle since 2013, so when I started reading it, I was pleasantly surprised and wondered why I'd overlooked it for so long. I initially connected with the main character and the action was funny & there seemed to be a good mystery to it. However from about 50% onwards, the constant scrapes and attacks on Addison became tedious rather than funny. Too many over the top situations and injuries in succession took away from the plot. When Addison decided not to share who she suspected the murderer to be with the police detective she's supposed to be falling for, I actually rolled my eyes. She doesn't even share with the reader who she captured in a photo for what felt like pages and pages I did like the love interest in Nick's character but was annoyed that it was never fully explored or concluded.

Too much, would have been nice to have enjoyed the middle before reaching the end!

Blimey what a ride! This book was written and raced along at breakneck speed, the main character was just too over the top, it was rather too fast paced in that you haven't had time to draw breath then the next thing rushes into play. That said I did partially enjoy the book, but if I read another in the series I would hope it isn't so fast paced that I had reached the end without enjoying the middle.
