彼女のこれからに期待したくなる、そんな一枚

天才次世代ピアニストと言われて久しいTaylor Eigstiの演奏を追いかけている中で出会った一枚、Erin Bohem。そもそも女性ボーカルものはあまり期待しない派で、ジャケ買いもしないタイプの私ですが、逆にこのアルバムのジャケは、いわゆるジャズにありがちな着飾ったフェロモン漂わせ系とは一線を画するロックな雰囲気すらあって、逆に好印象（笑）。とりあえずTaylor Eigstiのピアノにハズレはない、というところで購入。
　結論から言えば、当初期待していたTaylor Eigstiのピアノ自体はソツなく全く印象に残らないくらいにバック演奏に徹していて、そこは個人的には少し残念なところだが、とはいえ、バック陣の演奏内容は普通にとてもよい演奏だし、肝心のErin本人はというと、いい意味でジャケから期待したロックな期待を裏切る、むしろ正統派ジャズディーバの姿がおおいに期待できる素晴らしい声、歌。表現力もこの年齢の彼女らしい、嫌味のない、でもしっかり才能も技術も感じられます。収録曲は全体におとなしめな印象はあるものの、一曲一曲とても綺麗にセンスよくまとまっていて好印象。今後、もっともっとオリジナル曲が充実してきたら、この世代を牽引できそうなアーティストとして期待できそう。そんな今後が楽しみにそんなそんな女性ボーカル・アルバムです。

聴いていてその表現力の豊かさに魅了されます♪

金髪で、眼の色も違うようだけど、JAZだからいいかなと何気なく購入しました。
良い意味で期待を裏切ってくれました。

ピアノ演奏から始まって、何の曲か？と思っている内に・・・そして静かに始まるボーカル。

その後、ピアノが実は変化して、でもまた元にもどったりして・・・でも、ボーカルのかわいさ、優しさはこの娘を自分の子どもか孫にしたいって感じさせてくれます。

久々にフレッシュな才能に出会った思いです。

録音時、若干18才という若さながら、思い切りの良い大胆さと繊細さ、そして18才の初々しさと

大人の表現力とをを合わせ持ったこの表現力は天性のものでしょうか。

1曲目のカントリーの匂いがする曲は、Norah Jonesあたりを意識した、レーベルの意図と想像

しますが、稀な逸材だけに、彼女のやりたい方向にぜひ進んでほしいものです。

ラジオで聞いていてその透明感のある歌声にすっかり惹きつけられ買ってしまいました。音程がしっかりしていて安定感があること、かといってどっしりしたというのではなく若くてどこか危なげな匂いも漂わせながら時間がゆっくり過ぎていく心地よさを感じます。天性もあるのでしょうが基礎がしっかりしているのでしょう。そこから生まれる感動は本物だと思います。私がまず惹きつけられた曲はエニシングですが、この他にも彼女自身の作品は特に思いが伝わります。これからどう育っていくのか楽しみです。

あまりに良いのでコメントかきます。一言で表現するのは難しいけれど、スローにポップでジャジー。声がカワイイ（19才！！）けれども、薄い感じではないです。「ポストノラ・ジョーンズ」らしいけど、好みもありますが、私は「超えてるかも・・・？」とおもいます。

毎月10枚位はＣＤを購入しますが、こんなに聴きまくりは、なかなかありません。マジでお勧めです。

若者よ！ジャズを抱け！

エリンの登場は、間違い無くジャズ全盛期の再来がすぐそこに来ている予感を教えてくれている。10、20代の小粋なジャズ・ボーカリストがここ数年多くデビューしているが、ソングライターであるエリンは、特に大事にしたい気持ちで一杯です。まず、1.Someone to Loveでいきなり甘く、悩ましい歌声にしびれているのもつかの間、2.One Night with Frankで完全に虜になってしまった。その後も最後まで失望させないエリンの魅力で一杯の素敵なジャズ・アルバムです。是非真夜中のドライブにどうぞお試しください。

With the greatest respect to Mr. Rosenzweig below, he doesn't know his Diana Krall from his Erin Boheme! The former is effectively, a jazz singer who caught on and tends to lean towards pop. Quality ear candy, typically enjoyable listens, but not much more. The latter COMPOSED 6 of the 11 stellar tracks on her debut album with insight, subtlety and great hooks. Mr. Rosenzweig seems concerned about timing (see his comments re: Ms. Boheme knowing nothing of Sinatra). As a music collector with a vast collection (including a dozen or so Sinatra CDs) most of which are from artists who recorded at least something before 1985, I can tell you that sometimes you need to let go of the past and embrace the present (trust me on this). Ms. Boheme, along with young lionesses like Sophie Milman, Laila Biali and Holly Cole and young lions like Denzal Sinclaire, ought to be praised for doing such wonderful things for jazz vocals at a time when young people think all music must have a hip-hop beat and at least half a dozen words you can't say on television. I would also remind Mr. Rosenzweig that neither Ella or "Sara" (she actually spelled her name "Sarah", but whom am I to be critical) were songwriters per se. Unbelievable singers yes, but not songwriters. Don't be fooled then, this is a tremendous CD. The opening track is one for the ages and her tribute to Frank is exactly what it's supposed to be - fun. Aside from her compositions, she re-invents several standards with terrific arrangements and style ("Let's Do It" is particularly good). So go ahead and buy this CD and support a young jazz singer so she can do more great work. As a jazz fan who has no interest in this lady other than to hear her make more great music, I urge you to discount the review I've commented on and give Erin Boheme a try.

I heard Erin's voice on a Christmas collection, and immediately had to go to the liner notes to find out who was singing. Having not heard of her by name before, I went online and found her web site. That was when I was amazed to learn that she is just a teenager. She sounds so much more "seasoned" while singing a style well beyond her years.

Equally impressive is to note that she has composed and co-written most of the songs. A real talent, especially in a style not often associated with someone this young.

After listening to the album several times, I am glad to place it in my collection--somewhere between Diana Krall and Norah Jones, as she seems to blend those two artists and styles. Very nice and sultry. Well done musicianship in the band. A great overall sound, style, and an enjoyable listening event. How nice to hear a "youngster" that someone more "senior" in age can enjoy listening to. I'm looking forward to a follow-up to this album.

Erin Boheme's freshman set is full & lush, filled with expressive vocals. The Wisconsin chanteuse's opener "Someone to Love" is an original co-penned by Boheme with soft melody oozing emotion, "You'd be everything to me & surely you could see I was meant to love you." "One Night with Frank" follows with her homage to Sinatra, again co-penned by Erin with Chuck Berghofer's bass thumping pleasingly. "Let's Make the Most of a Beautiful Thing" softly scorches as Erin's sultry vocals burn. On "Make You Happy," Boheme gets soulfully playful, "I'd get rid of all my pride to be the one at your side." Inexplicably, photographer Randee St. Nicholas puts the lovely Boheme in a flowing lime green cocktail dress and sets her on a street by a parking meter & a passing car. Boheme works out on a track from Tracy Chapman's New Beginning CD. Boheme again is the Queen of Sultry on the slow burning "Anything." Boheme shines on the Peggy Lee classic "I Love Being Here with You." The set concludes with another playful original "Don't Be Something You Ain't," "You can taste the juices in the gravy; You can mix the colors in the paint; You can drive the older men crazy, but don't be something you ain't." Boheme's set is a strong one with the singer working toward establishing her musical personality. Because the style is a familiar genre, her work as a songwriter needs to be distinctive on the six original tracks; but instead they tend to blend a bit. It's a good beginning. Enjoy!
