全8曲＋Remix4曲ともに全盛期1979年ﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝのCHICサウンド全開で、大ヒット曲 We Are Family はもちろん、スローテンポな3曲も含めて聞き応え充分です。　同じ時期のCHICのオリジナルサウンドと聞き比べると、こちらのシスタースレッジの方がおしゃれな感じです。ディスコサウンドファンだけでなく、USヒットシーンファンにも是非聞いてもらいたい完成度の高いアルバムです。

グルーヴ感満点で、とにかく腰が動いちゃうんです。シックの面々によるバッキングがイイ！音も良いですね。特にファンキーなベースのグルーヴと音色が好きな人には文句無くおすすめできます。
シックは、シングルでヒットした曲とアルバムに納められたその他の曲とのクオリティ差が激しいのですが、このアルバムは全曲捨て曲無しです。買いましょう！

'He's The Greatest Dancer' is a great song to dance and sing along to (rapper/actor Will Smith sampled the song in his hit song 'Getting Jiggy With It'); 'Lost In Music' is another good song that could've easily been done by Disco group Chic; 'Somebody Loves Me' is a nice love song; 'Thinking Of You' is an 'okay' song and Miss Diana Ross could've easily sang the song on her 1980 album 'diana'; 'We Are Family' is a good song to dance and sing along to but I found the song to be too long and the chorus too repetitive! (Black folks like to dance and sing the song at family reunions); 'Easier To Love' is a nice song (not great to dance to); 'You're A Friend To Me' is an 'okay' song and it didn't make any sense to me! 'One More Time' is a good song and the vocals by the sisters were great. Kathy has a nice voice that sounds more Pop than R&B and her sisters Debbie, Joni, and Kim's voices were good as well. 'We Are Family' ('Sure Is Pure Remix') sounded ridiculous! 'We Are Family' ('Steve Anderson DMC Remix') is just as ridiculous as the previous version! Why even bother?! 'Lost In Music' (Sure Is Pure Remix') is 'okay' and I really didn't care for it because it sounded too 'out of place' in the 1990's! 'Lost In Music' ('1984 Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers Remix') is 'okay' and it sounds like their original version. Sister Sledge will always be, to me, a 'One-Hit Wonder' group; maybe if the sisters had better songs to sing they would still be popular today. Unfortunately, Joni Sledge passed away three years ago this month; R. I. P. Ms. Sledge: You may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten. (1956-2017)

IF on a tight budget, and contemplating which SISTER SLEDGE album to own, well look no further because "WE ARE FAMILY" is truly the one!!.
Designed to make you dance and to make you think, this stunning album is indeed the SISTERS crowning achievement!!.
Perfect from start to finish, with a CHIC feel to it, the program kicks off with the mega hit "HE'S THE GREATEST DANCER",this song is one of the most enjoyable disco songs ever recorded,you will agree as you listen. Next is the pulsing yet obsessive "WE ARE LOST IN MUSIC", another stunning recording,another favorite of mine. "SOMEBODY LOVES ME" is a true Ballard in every sense, this one is so slow, sad and blue, expressing pure doubt towards a significant other. Then comes the lively praising "THINKING OF YOU", followed by the all-time classic "WE ARE FAMILY" it's so lively and positive. It's elements has easily stood the test of time itself. I never tire of this record!!. Next comes the gloomy yet real "EASIER TO LOVE" the message,the vocal and instrumental arrangements here is truly very well done,this song really hits home. "YOU ARE A FRIEND TO ME" is laid back reggae flavored Ballard. Finishing off on a bouncy note is the swinging "ONE MORE TIME", done nicely as only the SISTERS can. Plus two remixes of "WE ARE FAMILY" and also two remixes of "LOST IN MUSIC" as bonuses are here on this special imported edition.
If you are a fan of the super disco group CHIC, then you must be aware of SISTER SLEDGE, because the songs of both groups are produced by the same folks, BERNARD EDWARDS and NILE RODGERS.
This album cannot age, an immortal of sorts. Highly recommended to all who is into timeless disco, it will secure it's place in your private stock and in your heart.

great disco album, pointless remixes

There can't be many disco albums so lacking in filler - I'd never heard any of the non-single tracks here until I bought this, and they're all good songs with the fine Sledge vocals and peerless Chic rhythm section, mostly relatively downbeat but definitely still disco.

Meanwhile the three classic hit singles are present in longer versions here. The first two tracks, He's The Greatest Dancer and, particularly, the awesome Lost In Music, benefit hugely from being longer but are essentially the same mixes as the single edits. We Are Family, however, at well over 8 minutes, definitely outlives its welcome. This is entirely because Kathy Sledge is allowed to adlib solo over much of the track and, given the overall quality of the album, never mind the actual song, this is a major disappointment, wasting one of the greatest rhythm tracks ever committed to tape. You probably wouldn't be too bothered in a disco, but from a purely listening p.o.v. this is probably the low point of the album.

Finally the original album is augmented by two remixes each of We Are Family and Lost In Music. It's very unusual for such after-the-event remixes to equal, let alone improve on, the originals, and these certainly don't. The first three now sound dated anyway by virtue of being from the early 90s; the last is at least a Chic remix.

Buy for the (almost) flawless original album, disco didn't get much better than this; stuff the remixes.

The music is great - you probably don't need me to tell you that. What spoils it for me is that it is one of those 'protected' CDs which doesn't allow me to back it up onto my PC, which also means i can't make a copy for listening to it in my car.
That's the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars though.
Update:I have just been given the option to download this album using the Autorip facility on Amazon, which i've taken up, and now have everything i was lacking before (in this case...). It would've been easier if the CD itself had allowed me to do this myself,nevertheless, i'm grateful for the work-round.
