Hayley Lawson is the author of War Kids. She was born in Lancaster, England. Growing up in a single parent household with five other siblings, was hard and also character building. As a young child she found a passion for drawing, and continued this into adulthood, graduating from the University of Central Lancashire, England with a BA(Hons) in fashion design. At aged twenty seven, Hayley and her husband packed up their belongings for a lifelong dream to move to California. Her America dream was complete with the birth of her daughter. Her passing for traveling, continued after the birth of her daughter traveling around America with the family, and the best travelled dog. A new job positioned opened up New York, and the family decide to relocate to Long Island, NY, which is where she currently resides. Definitely 5 stars. Lots of bad language however it 100% necessary!
Imagine being in a war whether your a child or an adult, and what happens in the book devastatingly happens to you. Do you say: "Oh no, my father is going to die!" Or something a hell lot worse? I would swear my pants off because the book is not only a story, it's a possible reality. War goes on everyday. For good or bad. However no-one should suffer the way they do. HJ Lawson expresses every bit of emotion pulling me in. Great read. I will say the book is aimed at young adults.

After seeing all the good reviews for this book I downloaded it only to be disappointed.

I found it rather boring and started to skim through the pages, until I eventually gave up. Rather a disjointed story and did not hold my concentration for long enough to want to bother finishing it.

It took me a little while (couple of chapters) to get into it and used to the characters but after that, I was hooked and couldn't put it down. The different points of view make it easy to relate to the different characters. Definitely worth a read, I will be getting the second part.

Wasn't sure when I first started this book. But it soon gripped me and read it in one sitting. It takes you into heart of the conflict looking at it from a different point of view..a child's. Read and enjoy. I'm off to read next instalment.

This is not my usual read but I was intrigued by the subject of war torn Syria. I was pleasantly surprised as we follow the lives,loves and horror of a group of children and their everyday struggle. This is the author first book and I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series.
