このシリーズは2冊あり、また、低学年用に１冊ある。Vocabulary CartoonsとVocabulary Cartoons IIにはそれぞれ290語の語彙が登録され、10語ごとに演習問題がついている。例文や関連語を丁寧に学習していくと、外国人にとっては１冊あたり1000語程度学習することになると思う。各冊子を半年ぐらいかけて８回ほど学習するとほぼマスターできたが、出現頻度が少ないので、何年かしたら復習が必要だと思う。刑事コロンボシリーズや他の洋画を見ると、SATレベルの英語がよく使われているのに驚かされる。ちなみにSATレベルの英単語力は、米国の中学・高校生がマスターする語彙力で、大学に入学するためにはSATの成績が必要だし、大学院に入学するにはGREの成績が必要である。

本書は主に米国の中高校生向けに作られたもので、その目的はＳＡＴ（Scholastic Aptitude Tests - 米国大学進学適正試験）等に準拠する英単語を暗記するためのものであるという前提にあります。おそらくそういう方は少ないかと思われますが、ただの英単語暗記モノとして購入するものではありません。即ち本書に出てくる単語は簡単なビジネスや日常会話ではあまり使われないものである事を承知の上で購入するべきものなのです。Part1のレビューにも書きましたが、それを大前提として、本書は単語を暗記する方法として実に効果的な手法を取っています。ちなみに簡単なビジネスや日常会話レベルでの単語を暗記されたい場合はVocabulary Cartoons, Elementary Editionをお勧めいたします。

　とりあえず、Iが終わったので、IIに移りましたが、今でもIで勉強した単語はほとんど覚えています。これはなぜか自分なりに考えてみたのですが、どうも各単語ごとに着いている語呂合わせのイメージを表した挿絵がみな面白くて忘れられず、記憶を引き出す鍵となっているからのようです（語呂合わせ自体は結構こじつけのようなものが多いです）。
　例えば、単語"pious(敬虔な）"の語呂合わせは"pie（お菓子のパイ）ですが、これを表す挿絵はパイの顔をした人間が夜、寝る前にベッドの脇で敬虔に祈っている、といった感じです。言葉で説明するは難しいのですが、とにかく各挿絵はみなユニークでユーモアにあふれています。
　ところで、Iの方はだいたい半分が知っている単語で、残りの半分は未知の単語という感じでしたが、このIIの方は手ごわく、ほとんどが知らない単語でした（carrion、diffident、peccadillo、etc.）。ただし、終わってみて、英字新聞を読んでみたら、IIで覚えた単語も結構出てくるので、やはりこれは教養のあるネイティブであったら知っていて当然の単語のようです。
　IとともにIIも英語学習上級者に自信を持って、お薦めできます。

This is obviously the sequel to the bestselling Vocabulary Cartoons. For the so-called “Vocabulary Cartoons part I,”I wrote the following review, “If you are the kind of person that remembers new vocabularies with the help of visual aids then this book is for you. The truth is the best way to remember a new word is by doing everything – by reading it, by speaking it, and by writing it. But to remember a difficult word that you don’t use much, you should attach a visual picture to the word so you will be able to recall the word by visualizing the picture. This book offers you many visual images of the words so if all else fails, you can always refer to the picture to remember those difficult words.” Pretty much everything stayed the same with the sequel and everything about what I wrote on the review concerning the “part I” applies in “part II.” It’s a fun study guide.

ボキャビルという言葉を聞くと、それだけで眠くなる人がいるぐらい普通は単語・熟語の暗記というのは退屈で単なる苦痛でしかない場合が多いです。しかし、この本はボキャビルというものの見方を劇的に変化させてしまうほど覚えやすく、また分かりやすい。遊び感覚で覚えるというよりは眺める感じでよんでいるといつの間にか自分のボキャブラリーが増えていく、そんな魔法のような本が本書だと私は思う。　もうボキャビルという苦痛を伴う上に退屈この上ない作業に愛想をつかしてしまった人も、もう一度この本で挑戦してみてはどうだろう？

ボキャビルに役立てばと思って購入しました。イラストがアメリカンな感じで見てて楽しかったです。難しめの単語もすんなり覚えられました。例文もアメフトや固有名詞が出てきていてアメリカの日常もわかってくるような気がしました。語呂がかえってわかりにくくさせる部分もあったので☆一つ減らしました

Vocabulary Cartoons II contains 290 key words presented through cartoons.

Each word contains a "link" word which is intended to serve as a mnemonic device, helping you to associate the new word to the word that you may be more familiar with. A good deal of the "link" words rhyme with the "key" word. To make the association even easier, the authors have provided a phrase which is easy to remember as in "We LAMENT that Joe got buried in CEMENT". This phrase is portrayed through a cartoon, providing a visual mnemonic.

Under each cartoon, you'll find three sentences with contexts where it may be appropriate to use the "key" word. These examples will also help you to develop the feel for the word, as well as to create more associations to the key word.

The authors have appropriately said that this book is "for everyone". The words in this vocabulary book seem to be for the most part on a high-school level. The words in Vocabulary Cartoons II are no harder than those in the Vocabulary Cartoons - you just get to learn more words.

I bought this book for my son, who will be going to Ninth Grade to help build his vocabulary. Not only is this book helping to build my childs vocabulary but how it can be used in a sentence. The book is "Great" because of its content. It defines the word, give one an idea how it should be pronounced, and use a cartoon to link it in a sentence. Further, use the word to construct threee sentences. Because of these examples, my child will find it easier to make a sentence of his own. The author makes it easier for a reader to grasp of what is being defined. I believe this book will play vital tool for my son's education. The author went to the extent, to let the reader or my son know what figure of speech the word being defined to be. Whether it is an adjective, noun or verb. Also, the book is good for me, that is, being a foreigner, it helps me pronounce words the way it should be pronounced, the American Version.

These books are the best. I use them for starters each day for my high school resource ELA classes. With each block of 10 words, my students scored at average of 80% on assessments. They love the cartoons with word/picture associations. I've been teaching reading for over 15 years and this is one of the most successful products I've used for broadening my student's vocabulary. I would recommend to any high school teacher.

My son (11) loves these cartoon vocabulary books. He has autism and reading is one of his favorite pastimes. He loves to laugh. This seems to help him as he uses adult words in context I am not sure where he has picked them up.
