I was afraid Richard Grier would avoid modern .NET programming practices when I read the introduction and discussion about porting VB6 code to .NET for the serial port. I relaxed later as I read his code examples. He has an excellent grasp of the subject and his years of experience means he has seen all the problems of capturing and keeping a serial port. I especially like the part about using the Arduino and connecting to it serially with .NET. This allows the developing applications for control and telemetry using internet of things devices such as xbee radios and such. It is a good mix of discussion, principles and code.

I gave the book 4 stars but the problem with this Kindle book is that it has references to a CD. I assume, if it goes to print, it will come with the printed copy but it isn't included with the Ebook.

I found a link on Richard Grier's web page where you can purchase and download the CD.
