内容紹介

Brighton and Leah have been the best of friends since seventh grade. Where Brighton is the quiet one who is focused on school, Leah is the bold and daring one who craves the adoration of an audience. It's always worked for them, until now.

Heading into their senior year, Brighton is challenged with an opportunity that can change the course of her future. The only problem? She just might have to step out of her best friend’s shadow.

But when Leah doesn’t support the choices she makes, Brighton is forced to reevaluate what true friendship is.

Brighton is changing and exciting doors are opening. A new world of music, friends, and even love are falling at her feet. But it's hard to enjoy it when Leah's life is spiraling out of control.

Now Brighton must try to not only save her friendship, but also her friend, before it's too late.

5つ星のうち 5.0 I need more! 2017/5/26

I really enjoyed reading this story and I am glad there will be a second one coming out. Leah & Brighton have so much more that they need to work out. I was honored enough to read the beginning pieces of this book so I was happy to see where the story went. I love the secondary characters and I can't wait for an ending. Leah's story really shocked me and I hope their friendship will go back to normal.
5つ星のうち 4.0 These Characters Personify "Fire and Ice" 2017/5/24

Rating: 4/5 Penguins

Quick Reasons: cutesy contemporary with some heavy-handed subject matter; Brighton's character ARC is so gorgeous and inspiring; I fell in love with these characters, and they smothered me with their vibrantly written personalities; I was NOT expecting that bombshell to drop

---"When people grow apart, it's because each has a path, and those paths no longer run side by side--they've splintered off into different directions. And different isn't always bad. But growing up is changing, and evolving. And if you can allow someone to change and seek their own path, but still hold onto what's important, then that's when you have truly grown up."

"What if one of you is growing up and one is just... not?"

"Then I guess you hope the other catches up."---

First things first: the biggest reason I picked up this book? THAT COOOOVER. Just look at it, penguins--LOOK AT IT! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's pretty simple...but that blue with the red? The way it's sort of split down the middle, a sort of warning that the read is a bit like fire and ice? The fact it's a treble clef?! I just adore everything about this cover, and how it lends itself to the read ahead. I'm not ashamed to admit I drooled over it, penguins. I drooled over it HARD.

And these characters are sort of the personification of the idea behind "fire and ice," when it boils down to it. Brighton and Leah are best friends...and are written so, so gorgeously. I could tell, almost immediately, that while they're so super close, they've sort of fallen off the friendship path and into something closer to uncomfortable. I'd even go so far as to say that the plot and their interactions lend to this theory--where one is burning, the other is frozen. It's actually brilliantly and subtly done, and looking back on it now, I can't believe I didn't think of it while reading.

---"No, my advice is this: fake it. Pretend you're the sh*t. Own it. Act as if all those people out there adore you and you can do no wrong. And before you know it, they'll believe it too."

My heart broke into a million pieces right then, because I realized that my Leah was broken more than I wanted to believe. How long had she faked it? How long had she carried that facade, and the one person who should have seen it--me--never caught on?---

There are some heavy, mature subjects touched on throughout. Alongside things like personal growth, friendship, and relationships are things like molestation, rape, and underage drinking. T.K. Rapp approached these heavier topics with sensitivity and poise, while still leaving them prominent enough for readers to ponder on and think about.

This was an entertaining, if heart-wrenching, journey, and I cannot wait to pick up another T.K. Rapp novel in the future! The characters are vibrant and personify the "fire and ice" idea brilliantly; the plot is fast-paced and filled with gut-churning moments. I definitely recommend this to lovers of contemporary reads, personal growth, and mature subjects handled with sensitivity. Step into this book, penguins; don't let it be something you regret missing out on!
5つ星のうち 4.0 An exploration of friendship, love, and loyalty 2017/5/17

Brighton and Leah are best friends and opposites in so many ways, but "no matter our differences, we respected each other and went out of our way to be there when we were needed most." But, in their senior year of high school, things start to change, and the girls drift apart.

The author has the knack of writing very natural dialogue. She is also very adept at depicting the complexities of different relationships. I especially love Brighton's relationship with her mother. But, while the writing is good, it does tend to be a bit repetitive. This book is an exploration of friendship, love, and loyalty told from Brighton's point-of-view. I look forward to reading the next installment, which will be from Leah's viewpoint.

Warnings: drug use, mental health issues, domestic violence, sexual references, sexual assault (not graphic).

This was a good book. I found some inconsistencies in the story that confused me and that's why it isn't a 5 star read for me.

This book will leave you wanting more. I wanted to know more about Brighton, Leah and all the others. I felt like it ended without the closure I wanted. I also think it glossed over stuff at the end. But I think I read somewhere that there will be a book two!!! So maybe all my answers will be given!

Your heart will break for these girls. You'll want to jump in the book and hug them both tight. And it'll make you hug your babies tight and talk with them.

This is another good YA read by TK Rapp! If you enjoyed this book you'll definitely want to check out Finding Laila by TK Rapp!!
