Austrian Bean & Sausage Soup is fantastic, I just use 5 more ounces of pork hock instead of using the pork belly, because I cannot find the pork belly where I live. The soup is also excellent with kale if you tire of the cabbage. This is a wonderful winter meal, just add a loaf of crusty bread and some good butter, maybe a glass of red wine, a burgundy would be good. What you have in this dish is pure comfort food.
Red Peppers Stuffed with eggplant will go straight to the heart and tummy of all us eggplant lovers. Simple grilled chicken breast and a thick slice of crusty garlic bread round this out to a wonderful meal.
The recipe for Hoppin' John, tastes like you are in Americas' South, pure soul food, an excellent rendition of this southern staple. Be sure and use the dry black eye peas, canned are not the same.
Cream Smothered Pheasant brings me back home to my French Cooking , those thick, rich, savory sauces that we can eat like twice a year (it is worth the 4 days of salads I have to eat following eating this decadent pheasant dish.)
Raspberry Shortcake is wonderful as the shortcake is rather spongy and soaks up all the wonderful fruit and sauce flavor and dispenses happiness all over the taste buds.
My husband asks often for me to make him the Plum Kutchen, he is as German as he can be and loves this dish that has ground almonds in the crust and an egg mixture poured over the dish part way through baking that turns the whole thing into a wonderful plum custard.
I live 98% of the time gluten free and South Beach style these days. But once in awhile I cannot deny those cravings for something extra rich and decadent, I reach for 2 cookbooks when it is time to indulge: Fat Ladies Full Throttle, or Julia Child. These books give me that home cooked goodness I cannot find anywhere except at home.
I do not use about 20% of the recipes because they take quit a bit of time , that is something I have none of, also do not have access to good quality fresh fish or seafood so those recipes don't get any use in our house either so I cannot testify to those recipes tastiness, but I am sure they are wonderful simply because these gals knew good food and how to marry it with just the right ingredients to make it all fabulous.
