お馴染全米1位の「Venus」などPWL制作の2曲とそれまでのシリアスなテイストの楽曲の温度差が激しい3rd。ここはむしろ隠れた名曲ばかりのB面曲を楽しむのが、正解。「Ghost」はとにかく名曲。泣けるバラードです。Included U.K.Top10 Hit: "Venus".

８０年代で最も成功したガールバンドの中のひとつ。スパイスガールズの先輩ですね。楽曲面ではトニースェイン（スパンダ－バレー、イマジネーションで有名）がからみ、英国ディスコ風なサウンドで固めています。彼女たちは曲は書かないので歌わされていたわけです。ストックエイトキン＆ウオーターマンの仕掛人にやられたという印象。今聴くと８０年代シンセサイザーべったり塗りたくりのちょいださめのダンスポップですかね。芸能界乗りの３人のキュートな声が魅力。若さが旬な時期のアルバムであり、ヒットもありでポップに仕上がっております。

むーん、懐かしい。その昔、ディスコ系でよく聞いたような気がする。
このCDはかなり後になって買った記憶があるが、今聞いてもそれほど古さは感じない。
＃私が古いせい？
全米No.1ヒットのVenusに尽きる気がしないでもない1枚だけど、原点を聴いてみるのも良いかな。
ヒット満載でノリノリに聴くならWOWとかThe Greatest Hitsの方がお勧めかな。

これもジャケ買いしたアルバムですが、その内容はかなり高得点。原始的な雰囲気の過去の作品から一転して、「垢抜けた」感じが◎。PWLを起用してのシングル⑥「Venus」は見事彼女たちにとって初の全米No.1を獲得、bananaramaの名を世に知らしめる足がかりとなりました。
今聴いても耳馴染みのよいショッキング・ブルーのオリジナル「Venus」、この楽曲と当時世間を席巻していた「ユーロビート」のマッチングが、「自然にノレる」グルーヴを引き出すことに成功。PWL提供のもう一作、⑩「More than physical」は、躍動感あふれるbananaramaへの変貌を端的に表現しています。その他の楽曲も、サビの覚えやすさというツボを押えつつ、やや硬質で挑発的。とりわけ①「True confessions」のドラミングや⑤「In a perfect world」のコーラスワーク、そして⑪「Hooked on love」で試されたRap調の歌いまわしなどに見て取れます。従来のポップの発展形が⑦「Do not disturb」、⑨「Promised land」等で聴けるのも嬉しいトコロ。

This is Bananarama's third album, and could arguably be considered its strongest. Although "True Confessions" will always be best remembered for Bananarama's seminal "Venus" smash, there's much more than meets the eye on this album. In fact, those who are looking for more of the same glitz and camp featured on "Venus" will find themselves with something much darker, challenging and ultimately more satisfying.

From the tribal rhythms of the opening title track right to the amibitious "Hooked on love" (the last official track of the album, right before it gets to the bonus tracks), the trio worked hard at coming up with thoughtful lyrics about twisted relationships and states of the heart that so many of us could relate to. The album notably features a stunning trio of outstanding songs : "A trick of the night", "Dance with a stranger", "In a perfect world", each seguing beautifully into the next one, featuring gorgeous vocal harmonies and emotional lyrics. In fact, these three complex, pensive and longing songs are some of the most amazing work that this band has ever come up with, and stand miles away from the superficial pop songs that they would eventually come up with by the end of the 80s. The rest of the songs on "True Confessions" are quite good, with standouts such as "More than physical", "Ready or not" and "Promised land".

This reissue provides a generous serving of seven bonus tracks; the ballad "Ghost" is especially arresting, while B-Sides such as "White train", "Scarlett" and "Set on you" are quite worth the purchase. The single remixes of "A trick of the night" and "More than physical" are nice additions, but they don't come close to the original versions. "Risking a romance" is a fun pop track that was originally included on "The Secret of my Success" soundtrack, and it's nice to finally have it included on a Bananarama album.

I never bought this album originally as i was never really into tapes and LPs were big and could suffer from the odd scratch or two.Yet, as i grew up in the 80s and loved most of the pop back then,i do like Bananarama and the 4 singles on this album, especially Venus which was a number 1 in the US charts.Dissapointing to say that much of the album is made up of fillers including the title track ,which also opens the album.I think the bananas were trying out a new approach with their music which i think was a brave thing to do at the time,yet they quickly reverted to the more pop and upbeat follow up WOW in 1987. However this album was well worth a listen.This 25th Anniversary Edition boasts a full 24 bit digital remastering along with rare b sides and 7" versions of more than physical, which i think is a better poppier version compared to the original album version and trick of the night from the tv show "In at the deep end".It arrived promptly within a few days- as i live in Rep of Ireland, and it is not at all pricey for such an expanded and remastered album.I will definitley be checking out similar releases from other 80s and 90s chart heroes.[ASIN:B000N2G1G2 True Confessions: Remastered & Expanded]]

Firstly this Cd only has two SAW tracks on it (Venus and More Than Physical) In my opinion having these two tracks spoils the whole atmosphere of the CD. The rest of the CD was produced by Swain and Jolley famous for producing Spandau Ballets Hits and Alison Moyet's "Alf". The tracks are sophisticated, serious and moody and include some of the best vocals from Bananarama. The singles "A Trick of The Night" and "Do Not Disturb" didn't fair as well as "Venus" in the charts but they have aged well and still sound fresh today. The opening track "True Confessions" is a corker, and "Dance with A Stranger" can only be described as "classy pop" that you would expect someone like Sade to have sung, however Bananarama pull it off beautifully. "A Perfect World" continues the classy sophisticated feel of the album only to then be spoilt by "Venus" a song I do love, but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the album. "Do Not Disturb" another excellent track is as poppy as the other tracks get. This album is hugely underated. If it had been released by an unknown artist it would have been deemed a classic. It IS a classic in my view. They went on to have some of their greatest hits after this album, but in my opion this was the best work they ever did and is a far cry from what they went on to do. If you haven't heard this CD I gaurentee you'll be shocked as to how good it actually is!

This album is nothing short of awesome! Featuring the American hit singles "Venus," "More Than Physical," and "A Trick of the Night." Noteworthy album tracks include "Do Not Disturb" and "True Confessions." There are a couple of great b-sides included on the "Collector's Edition" that are true gems. The haunting "Ghost," and the lively "White Train." If you like this, check out Bananarama's "The Greatest Hits Collection." Some of Bananarama's notable hits on there are "Really Saying Something," "Shy Boy," "Cruel Summer," "I Heard a Rumour," "Love in the First Degree," and "Love, Truth and Honesty." Enjoy!
