A world champion boxer tells his story of struggle and triumph—from his traumatic childhood to life in the ring and Hollywood celebrity.
In 1996, at the age of 41, Vinnie Curto won the World Boxing Federation Super Cruiserweight Title. He was on top of the world, but he’d gone through hell to get there. Born in East Boston, Vinnie grew up with a violent father who subjected him to years of horrifying sexual abuse. At age 16, Vinnie escaped by lying about his age and joining the Navy. That decision changed his life—and probably saved it.

As Vinnie Curto warned in the beginning of book, I'm paraphrasing, it might bring you to tears and or feelings of horror; and it did. I was horrified over the behavior of his father towards him and sad that Vinnie still needed to feel loved by him; which is not unusual, all children, no matter how old we grow, need to know that we were loved, some more than others. When that love comes unconditionally, as I felt it did for me from both my parents, one realizes just how difficult Vinnie Curto's life began due to his relationship with his father.
I truly enjoyed his story and was amazed to learn about the people he met in his life and the impact it had on him, sometimes good, sometimes not, but no matter which way it went, he is truly a survivor.
This book was provided to me by WIldbluepress, the best publisher of books that matter to interested readers, in my opinion. Sorry New York Times, your top ten book list is a farce compared to the books that Wild Blue Press chooses to publish. Thank you, Lorie
