Set in the South, volumes one and two from the Cape Refuge suspense series by Terri Blackstock come together under one cover. A unique island setting, close-knit relationships, fast-paced action, and underlying themes of faith combine to make for reading you can't put down at a value you can't turn down.
From the first, you are caught up in the world of a small fictional island off Savannah, Georgia. When reading the blurbs, I was actually more intrigued about how a small town police chief could just disappear and not be found. That was the hook that caught me and made me want to read these books.
Once I'd read these two, I had to find out whether the long-strand plot thread of Blair and Cade would be resolved in marriage. I had to know - and in order to find out, I had to purchase the other two books as well.
These were the first books I've read of Terri Blackstock, but I'm sure I'll find others. She has a great way of weaving the mystery with the personal aspects of the characters and though one of the guilty parties is usually revealed quickly, the accomplices and their motives are not.
Cape Refuge - Draws you in from the beginning with a contentious city council meeting over the closing of Hanover House. We meet the two sisters, Morgan and Blair who are trying to help keep their family home, a halfway house for released convicts, in business. They await their parents, who never come because they've been murdered and Jonathan, Morgan's husband, is arrested by his best friend, Police Chief Cade because the evidence points to him. Watch Morgan and Blair 'help' Chief Cade find the real guilty parties.
Southern Storm - Police chief Matthew Cade, who goes by just 'Cade', mysteriously disappears the morning after he accidently hit a stranger on the island with his police car in a storm. Blair seems to be the only one who thinks something bad has happened to him. Everyone else thinks he eloped. We find out what happens to him fairly quickly, and agonize with him as two escape attempts are thwarted. Why is he being held?
You'll love 'em. And the next two as well. River's Edge and Breakers Reef.
In the first book Morgan and Blair get the worst news ever. Will they find who killed their parents. As evidence points to Jonathan, Morgan's husband, Morgan fights to prove them wrong. And Morgan and Blair are determined to find the real killer at large.
In book two a man is hit by detective Cade. But they found more wrong with him then being just hit. As Cade is torn by the death of the man he hits. He suddenly goes missing. Babies start going missing. And how does this tie into Cade?
Can Blair ever see God as her refuge and believe in God?
Loved both these books and can't wait to see what the rest of the series unfolds.
