Son of Albert Is a Worth Your Time

It is unfortunate that Andrew Ridgeley's one and only solo album was so unfairly maligned. This album is very good and I would recommend that everyone just give it a chance. I think that its reception was really more a reaction by the rock music press, especially Rolling Stone, that resented Wham! but had no basis at all for attacking the band as a result of its amazing success. Ridgeley has a very good voice, however few singers can compare to George Michael (Bono and Freddie Mercury are the only ones that really stand a chance), so criticizing him would have been hard. Once Ridgeley was on his own, they saw an opening and took it. Furthermore, to his credit, Ridgeley departs radically from the Wham! sound on this album, so he was an easy target for their malice. Some of the stand out tunes on the album would be: "Red Dress", the Latin influenced "Mexico" and the bluesy "Baby Jane". That last tune has great harmonica that just pulls you right in. Reflecting a bit of the Wham! fondness for the music of the 1950's (like in "Edge of Heaven"), Ridgeley does a nice job with the Everly Brothers "Price of Love". This album is not perfect of course, however do not believe those who just shred it unjustly. They are merely parroting Rolling Stone's hit piece. Listen for yourself and maybe some time Ridgeley will give us another album to build on his first.

I loved all things WHAM and Andrew was always my FAVORITE. Love this album.
A rare find

I was always wondering what his solo stuff is all about, it's totally different than Wham! so you have to have an open mind. It's more rocky than pop but George Micheal does a guest backing vocals on Red Dress but even then it didn't sell well, I never heard any of his music on the radio or Mtv so this a rare find.

Really good album from the other half of Wham. It has a lot of rockers on it, which was a pleasant surprise. Doesn't sound anything like Wham or George Michael.

This guy should still be making music! He does have talent. Nice tracks on the album and fun to listen to!
