Daisy

Sleepovers
Jacqueline Wilson
(著)
Amy, Bella, Chloe, Daisy and Emily are friends at school and have their own Alphabet Club -- look at their initials! Daisy is the newest member and is desperate to fit in, even though Chloe is sometimes unfriendly towards her. Throughout the school year, the girls plan ever more elaborate sleepovers. Daisy is dreading the time when her turn comes as she doesn’t know what her friends will make of sleeping over at her home, with her rather special older sister. The story is both a superb handling of both the complexities of young, female friendship, and the joys and problems of having a sister with learning disabilities.

“Hugely popular with seven to ten year olds: she should be prescribed for all cases of reading reluctance.” -- Independent on Sunday
"Guess what!" said Amy. "It's my birthday next week and my mum says I can invite all my special friends for a sleepover party."
"Great," said Bella.
"Fantastic," said Chloe.
"Wonderful," said Emily.
I didn't say anything. I just smiled. Hopefully.
I wasn't sure if I was one of Amy's special friends. Amy and Bella were best friends.
Chloe and Emily were best friends. I didn't have a best friend yet at this new school.
Well, it wasn't quite a new school, it was quite old, with winding stairs and long polished corridors and lots and lots of classrooms, some of them in Portakabins in the playground. I still got a bit lost sometimes. The very first day I couldn't find the girls' toilets and went hopping round all playtime, getting desperate. But then Emily found me and took me to the toilets herself. I liked Emily sooooo much. I wished she could be my best friend. But she already had Chloe for her best friend.
I didn't think much of Chloe.
I liked Amy and Bella though. We'd started to go round in a little bunch of five, Amy and Bella and Emily and Chloe and me. We formed this special secret club. We called ourselves the Alphabet Girls. It's because of our names. I'm Daisy. So our first names start with A B C D and E. I was the one who spotted this. The secret club was all my idea too.
I always wanted to be part of a special secret club. It was almost as good as having a best friend.

Dasy
Dasy

"I loved this book" said my daughter (7)
I bought this book for my seven-year-old daughter who misses having sleepovers with her friends due to the lockdown. I asked her to write the review which she happily did:
"I loved this book😁😋
I loved it because it was very interesting and It shows that sadly bullies are at school but the good guys always win.
About the book:
There was a bully called chloe she thought she was the BOSS of the Alphabet squad. A for Amy B for Bella C for chloe (who was annoying) 🙄 E for Emily, she was the kind one 😘 and D for Daisy who was the main girl😎 narrating the story. The most spectacular part was her sisy 👭 because she had special needs and Daisy thought she was a very special sister. Daisy did protect her if you were wondering."

Fantastic book

My daughters (age 7 and 9) have both read this and absolutely love it. Jacqueline Wilson approaches emotional topics with such a wonderful sensitivity. In this book, the main character is dealing with her feelings about her disabled sister, whilst struggling with peer acceptance and bullying. Wilson really gets children thinking about some of life's big issues (disability, death, abandonment - not all in THIS book ha ha) but does it beautifully, in an age appropriate way. I think this kind of literature is important for children, as it helps to give them an understanding of the issues some children can face. Children who are actually experiencing similar issues might find some comfort in reading these books and identifying with the characters. I recommend this and all of Jacqueline Wilson's books 100%.

20 years old!!!!

I didn't realise this book was written 20 years ago! I thought it was a newish book. I wouldn't classify it as a classic either. Little bit dated to be honest and although the child thought it was ok I regret not purchasing a more up to date book! The other reviews about bullies and the ending of the book are right and they wouldn't be in a modern day book. I wouldn't recommend. Hope this helps..

I have had a love for Jaqueline Wilson for a few years and when I saw this book I immediately read the description. One of the things that really stood out to me in this book was about Daisy's sisters autism as it is something very important that happens. There is also an aspect of bullying in the book. Chloe, the spoilt one in the alphabet girls bullies Daisy , the new girl in the school. They all have sleepovers at each others houses. One thing I didn't like was that it didnt talk much of the girls at home. It was very much the sleepovers and at school which I would have prefered to have more of the girls home life before the sleepovers and before school. Overall, I definitely reccommend this book to any girl who cant think of a book to read and wants a good book to relax and read.

Machiavalli for kids
Do you want you little girl to become a playground bully than read this book to them. Incredible ending that you do not wish any child. From the concluding paragraph's "I wouldn't have you for a friend if you were the last girl in the world, daisy diddums said Chloe and she turned her back on us and went off with this new gang of girls. It was so wonderful! So Belle and I are best friends ..." " Chloe doesn't look as if she likes it but there's nothing she can do about it - she knows we could still tell on her"
This ending is Machiavalli for kids.
