I bought the book for my granddaughter who loves the sea and because I had read it when I was about her age.Cousteau was a passionate lover of the oceans and an excellent writer. His vivid descriptions and gripping narrative I remember well and my granddaughter is enjoying it as I'd hoped.
I am disappointed that the quality of the print and the photos is not as good as the original but then it is paperback.
The Silent World: The International Bestseller by the Father of Underwater Exploration (National Geographic Adventure Classics) (英語) ハードカバー – 2004/7/1
Jacques-Yves Cousteau (1910–1997) was a French marine explorer, inventor, filmmaker, and conservationist who sailed the world for much of the late twentieth century, educating millions about the Earth's oceans—and inspiring their protection. Little of it would have been possible without scuba gear, which Cousteau pioneered when, in World War II, he along with engineer Emile Gagnan, cocreated the Aqua-Lung, a twin-hose underwater breathing apparatus. With the Aqua-Lung, Cousteau and his crew were able to explore and film parts of the ocean depths that had never been seen before, resulting in such Oscar-winning movies as The Silent World.

Review of "The Silent World" by J.Y. Cousteau.2014年1月15日に英国でレビュー済み
I have been scuba diving since 1963 and Cousteau was my hero back then. After all he was the real pioneer of diving. I had a copy of this book years ago and loaned it to someone who never returned it. I tried to replace it but it was out of print and I could not get a copy in the book shops. I was advised to try Amazon and thankfully you obtained this one for me. In fact this copy is superior to my original one as there are pictures in this copy while there were no pictures in my one.
