SPECK PRODUCTS Nexus 7用 FitFolio （ブラック） SPK-NEXUS-FITFLO-BLK
After just under two months of regular use, I'm seeing the first signs of wear on the corners which betray the non-leather make of this case. I open and close the cover quite frequently, but haven't been shuffling it around in a bag that much or stuffing it in my pockets too often.
If this were not vegan, and made from actual animal skin, I think that the wear would be unnoticeable. As it's not, I'll probably end up covering it with stickers or gaffer's tape after all. Be careful what you wish for! ;-D
3rd time was the charm - tried two other cases before this, both of which were not up to snuff.
Good, tight fit. As far as I can tell, it doesn't impede any of the ports, microphones, speakers, et cetera, with the exception of the SIM card slot. Closing tab snaps shut satisfyingly. Embedded magnets sleep the screen automatically when the cover is closed.
Doesn't remove fingerprints on the screen, however. (Would you expect it to? Perhaps not... But the surface that covers the screen is a nice soft felt-y material.) Stand-mode is fair to moderate. Also, if the cover is folded back, one might experience the screen turning off due to the embedded magnets.
Would probably end up buying again. Just wish it wasn't so good looking - I want to put stickers on it, but don't want to mar the aesthetics! ;-)
So basically you can not use this case unless you leave the flap hanging to the side (which defeats the purpose of buying a slim case) or unless you modify it yourself. I have contacted Speck and I will update with how they handle this issue
Update: So weeks later I have finally received a replacement case that has no issues. I had to wait as Speck was out of stock for a while but I am happy now that I finally have a working version. Speck customer service was very nice and helpful.
The only reason why I took one star off was that it does not always put the nexus to sleep when closed. It seems to wake up OK but not sleep reliably. Otherwise I love it.
-Every edge of my nexus is covered. Top bottom and right side are covered by the plastic from the case and left is entirely covered with leather with the plastic case having a few breaks to accommodate the folding stand. The surface of the nexus sits perfectly flush with the plastic edges of the case.
-Auto wake/sleep is a nice feature. The physical wake/sleep button on my nexus has basically been untouched since I got this case.
-The leather and micro suede on the inside have a nice feel to it. I use this for my business and it gives the nexus a very sleek and professional appearance.
- the locking clasp works when the case is open and closed if you fold the cover back.
- all ports are easily accessible.
- the magnet that activates the sleep and wake will put the nexus to sleep if you fold the cover all the way back. I fixed this by putting a piece of metal in the back of the cover. The metal is a little thick so there's a very small bump when the case is closed, hardly noticeable.
Even though the sleep wake thing is a little annoying, its an easy fix. I would buy this case again if any thing happened to it.
Edit: I noticed this is the exact same case as the fit folio for the iPad mini but fitted for the nexus of course. So if you have a chance I recommend going to your local store and check out this case for the iPad mini. It is the same plastic casing on the back, same leather and same micro suede on the inside and even the same clasp used for closing it.
I have to say that Speck has offered an extraordinarily great product in their Speck Products FitFolio for Nexus 7 - Black (SPK-A1554). The material and workmanship is great quality. You will not be disappointed if you decide to purchase this case.
