Kevin Wallace, CCIEx2 No. 7945 (Route/Switch and Collaboration), is a Certified Cisco Systems Instructor (CCSI No. 20061) and holds multiple Cisco professional and associate-level certifications in the Route/Switch, Collaboration, Security, Design, and Data Center tracks. With Cisco experience dating back to 1989, Kevin has been a network design specialist for the Walt Disney World Resort, an instructor of Cisco courses for Skillsoft, and a network manager for Eastern Kentucky University.
Currently, Kevin produces video courses and writes books for Cisco Press/Pearson IT Certification (http://kwtrain.com/books). Also, he owns and operates Kevin Wallace Training, LLC ( http://kwtrain.com ), a provider of self-paced training materials that simplify computer networking. Although the author is listed as Kevin Wallace, almost everything in it comes from the previous CCNP Route exam book (642-902) by Wendell Odom. The bulk of it is a word for word and diagram for diagram duplicate, although a couple of chapters are left out and a couple are added. Sadly, things like PPPoE, PAP and CHAP, which were in the original book were dropped for this book - despite being on the syllabus for the new exam (and featuring in a couple of questions on my exam). The coexistence of IPv4 and IPv6 featured quite a bit in the original 642-902 book, but only get a passing mention in this new revision - for example, NAT64 had a third of a page dedicated to it, but, again, this featured in a couple of questions on my exam.
About 10% of the questions in my exam were around NetFlow, yet there was not one single mention of it in this book. Similarly for HSRP. Going from my experience in the exam, and the actual syllabus, both of these need at least a chapter dedicated to them.
Of course, no one should rely on one single source for all of their exam revision. However, this book should be seen as a supplement to other more inclusive study material, not as a framework to base your study around.
If this had been published by anyone other than Cisco Press, and didn't include "Official Cert Guide" in its title then I would have probably rated it a lot higher, as it does cover the details of EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and Route Distribution quite thoroughly - but that alone won't get you through the exam!
