Wiz khalifa

「Black and yellow」,「On my Level」,「Roll Up」,「No Sleep」がおススメです。

BLACK EYEDE P

Better Than I Expected for his Major Debut
I've been listening to Rolling Papers for a couple days now, probably a good 15 - 20 times in total. Wizzer has more hits than misses on this album, and overall, it's a solid effort with quite a few songs that lead me to recommend a purchase to a hip hop enthusiast or Wiz fan. I was bordering on 4, but I have to give it 4.5 out of 5.
Review:
I've been a Khalifa listener for a couple years now, owning his previous albums and mixtapes (favorites include 'KxOJ', 'How Fly', 'BAR', 'Deal or No Deal' and 'Flight School' - can you tell I'm a fan?), and attending two of his concerts. Lyrically, on this outing, you're not going to find 2Pac. But, you don't come to Wiz for the lyrics; you come to Wiz for a varied, catchy flow over interesting production. Most regular listeners know what to expect from Mr. Taylor Gang at this point: feel good tunes about smoking weed, partying, getting money and women; the standard hip hop topics. I did enjoy the tracks where he went a bit deeper; notably on Fly Solo, and Cameras. The man even sings on a somewhat regular basis, which is an enjoyable aspect of his talent. The production here isn't revolutionary by any means, but there are a few standouts including (of course) Black & Yellow as well as The Race and Fly Solo. I also enjoyed the production on Hopes and Dreams, Top Floor, and Rooftops. I honestly expected this album to be more airplay-oriented, but he surprised me and only has a couple blatantly radio-friendly songs. I was pleasantly surprised on my first listen through.
TL;DR review:
Essential Tracks-
1. Black & Yellow (I've probably heard this song ~1,000 times and am somehow am not tired of it; perfect marriage of beat & flow).
2. The Race (barely lost out to B&Y; excellent production and top-notch replay value).
3. No Sleep (probably going to be on the radio 5 times an hour this spring/summer... but that's OK).
4. Top Floor (fun production).
5. Fly Solo (guitar-centric production and more abstract lyricism).
6. Rooftops (Curren$y feature... got to love it).
Skip These Tracks -
1. Roll Up (makes me want to smack myself for listening).
2. Get your Sh** (seems like a rushed break up song, mail-in chorus).

I have been listening to Wiz since the release of his first studio album, "Show and Prove", in 2006. I purchased the two studio albums following "Show and Prove" ("Deal or No Deal" & obviously "Rolling Papers") and listened to every official mixtape of his after "Prince of the City 2." I have done my very best to listen to every single of his that isn't on any albums or mixtapes. I know Wiz Khalifa's music inside and out. I am proud to say that Wiz is essentially the only reason I still listen to rap music, and 75% of the time, it's Wiz I'm listening to.
"Rolling Papers" represents an almost perfected formula that Wiz has established for constructing an album that is a mix of catchy beats and fun lyrics that deal with what he's all about instead of shooting people, beating women, and/or just being a "gangster" idiot in general. I listen to every song on this album regularly, and I don't know about you, but I can't even come up with a HANDFUL of other rap albums that I can do that with. Usually, I'm thrilled with an album where maybe half of the songs are awesome.
For those of you who complain that Wiz is "commercial" now, grow up, and stop being so selfish. Sure, songs like "No Sleep" are a little too Pop even for me, but I still enjoy songs like it once in a while. Besides, he can't cater to every single fan's personal wishes for every single track. He's doing what he's been saying he was going to do since day one - become rich and famous through his music. Congratulations, Wiz, because you've done it. I sincerely hope there's plenty of years to come for us to appreciate and just simply enjoy listening to your music.
Oh yeah, and one other thing - T.G.O.D.

Relive A Period Where You Partied Non-Stop
Rolling Papers was an essential album for anyone growing up around its release. This album is quite distinctly as I put it one of the most ultimate chill party albums that was around for its time. This song could be bumped to any occasion for young people like myself; summer BBQs, late night binge drinking, college parties, and even at bars. It summarized the feeling of a new generation; what little hope we have can be found in money, drugs, and drinking! Songs like No Sleep weren't just titles... they were modes which people lived while the economy continued to suck. I highly recommend Rolling Papers if you're like me... just your average guy who can't help but reminisce about all the parties that happened with Wiz Khalifa playing in the background. The price I paid for this was a steal compared to the unforgettable... and perhaps easily blacked out... memories I've had enjoying life to its fullest during the years of 2010ish to 2014ish.
