Trauma, trampolines and cake ... lots of cake2020年7月31日にカナダでレビュー済み
Author Anita Horan, with grace and no small degree of stamina, opens herself to the world in "Revenge of the Wilting Flower" to share her unique life journey. In this very readable and engaging book, the reader is deftly guided through the dense and dark issues of a fundamentalist religious upbringing, bullying, rejection and treatment interspersed with the gaiety of family life in Australia perched on the edge a lavender field, chickens running underfoot, gardens, trampolines plus love enough, as it turns out, to conquer the darkness. And yes, also lots of cake.
I Was Surprised How Poorly Women Treat Each Other2020年7月29日にオーストラリアでレビュー済み
No one could honestly deny that women put up with a lot from men. This book however, written by a woman, touches on a taboo subject – how women are happy to bully, intimidate and ostracize other women. This was eye-opening to me. My naivety led me to believe women did not indulge in bullying like men. Goodness knows what women will think of this subject! While this is a continual thread that runs through ‘Revenge of the Wilting Flower’, the author’s experience covers a lot more. If you have ever tightly held onto a belief system that no longer makes sense when you look at the world, this story presents the shocking mental fallout from gripping onto those beliefs even tighter. It strikes me a lot of people’s beliefs are being challenged right now and all the old institutions whether they be religious, political, or social are not making a lot of sense right now. I suspect that like the author, many of us are going to have to look our most cherished beliefs in the eye and find the courage to move onto something better. A book for our times.
This will resonate and inspire2020年8月4日にオーストラリアでレビュー済み
The author has clearly poured her heart into this book. She bravely opens up about mental health battles which will resonate with many readers, I am sure. The story morphs into an uplifting read about overcoming adversity. Thank you for sharing your story Anita, and may it inspire others to seek a "light at the end of the tunnel".
