内容紹介

Intent on total destruction, Satan notices Cain’s obsessive lust for Lilith and the dark roots of jealousy growing deep in his soul toward his do-gooding brother Abel. Satan goads him to the point of madness, barraging his mind with thoughts of hatred, lust, and futility. In a blinding rage, Cain wrecks everything.

Filled with shame, he flees into the vast wilderness, unable to possess the one thing he truly desires—Lilith. His life is destroyed, and he wonders if he will ever find his way back. He longs for refuge, and wonders if he will ever find God again?

The Refuge captured my attention at the onset. Within the first few pages, I was hooked. Totally recommend this book! Even though the setting is unfamiliar compared with today (immediately outside the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve), Melinda's rich and engaging development of the setting and the characters drew me in. The people and the relationships are believable, and I could relate to them as though they were people I know now, faults and strengths. I think what was most evident to me throughout the entire story is how God so deeply loves each and every one of us no matter what we have done or where we are in our journey. He yearns for our fulfillment through Him as we were designed to be, and desires for us to receive His forgiveness and healing, to become who He created us to be. That message is strong. I also enjoyed the straight-up recognition of Satan as the leader of the fallen angels, prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). What the advesary can and cannot do is addressed in various situations, and the study guide helps readers understand and apply this important knowledge of spiritual warfare, a reality of life whether we like it or not. An appropriate ending for the time being, but the ending left me wanting more...

5つ星のうち 5.0 Five Stars for Refuge 2014/5/13

Have you ever read a book that you couldn't put down?

Lost track of time because of a good story?

Been sad, because when the novel came to an end, you just wanted to read "the next chapter"?

Or how about this one: Thought you knew all there was to know about a story....thought it to be boring...and then just chalked it all up to a "sunday school felt-board" story?

I've done all of these things. But what surprises me the most about Refuge has to do with the very last point I made: I thought I knew what there was to know about the Adam and Eve/Cain and Abel Story in the bible.

And I would argue that what I did know was all I really did need to know.

But still bored with the "felt-board" memories.

The Sunday School stories that I did know about Genesis and the story of Cain and Abel were not wrong. But REFUGE brought this story to the next level.

The fictionalized drama of the Cain-Abel story brings biblical truth, an accurate, historical context, and the power of "what might have been" all together.

It is real life: real feelings, real regret and just plain real--from page one till the end. The way the story is supposed to be. But in a way that brings it home to readers of the here and now.

It's scandalous and redemptive. The way real life seems to work.

Refuge doesn't replace the biblical story of Cain and Abel, but adds an "I'll bet it looked like this..." element to it. And all based on study and years of research.

This is the same element that brings one of the first stories in all of biblical time right on home to the present.

Have you ever done anything in your life that you thought could not be forgiven?

Have you ever run from God because of any insecurities you have felt?

Did you know that one of the oldest stories in history is about the same thing?

Do you crave a scandalous and redemptive story?

Thank you Melinda Viergever Inman for not only your years of research, but for bringing the story "home" to me. I'm looking forward to the next novel

5つ星のうち 5.0 Great Read 2014/4/6

I purchased this book on Amazon and also downloaded it on iBooks. What a fantastic story, I found myself awake late at night reading as fast as possible trying to figure out what was about to happen. Each of the characters come to light in a different fashion. I found myself disliking the churchiness of Able. I actually really disliked him...I despised Eve. Wish more bad things would happen to her. 900 years of living with her...ugh. Cain is a great character. And I really like Adam. Fantastic action throughout the book, oh and if romance is your thing it has it as well. You should buy this book.

This is by far the best book I have read on the creation story. It was very believable and enthralling. I have no faults to find in the narrative and if I did, they would be very few and minor. The love between Cain and Lilith was so precious that I determined to treat my own husband better as a result. I am a better woman and wife for reading these two terrific novels by Melinda. Thank you for all the research done and all the many hours laboring over this delightful subject. While reading Refuge, I found myself in need of the same kind of help from God that Cain needed. God delivered me, fully restored me and I was able to finish reading with a humbled heart filled with love and gratitude. His Word is true....always!

5つ星のうち 5.0 An Amazing Book 2015/2/4

Without a doubt, this is one of the most intriguing stories I have read in a long time, especially considering that I already knew the basic plot! But Melinda’s writing drew me in from the first page with her excellent characterizations as well as details that made the setting come alive, as though I were right there living it. And talk about a page turner! I lost a great deal of sleep while reading this book because I honestly couldn’t put it down, wanted to keep reading just another page or just one more chapter.

The spiritual truths were evident and stark and Satan’s character gave me the willies. His evil schemes made the whole concept of spiritual warfare more real than anything I’ve read since Perretti’s books from long years ago. The message of God’s love trumping anything the devil and his cohorts could dream up, though, reassured me and brought me comfort as I watched Cain go through his transformation into the man God created him to be. What an amazing tale of every manner of sin from lust to envy and greed to hatred, all covered by God’s incredible grace and mercy as His forgiveness is clearly demonstrated in the lives of Adam and Cain in particular. I will never look at this Bible story the same again! You should run, not walk, to get this book and clear the decks when you do because you will not want to do another thing until you have finished the last breathtaking page!
