Ready for the Worldの1984年のデビューアルバム。

A well put together debut album from a very talented but VERY underrated group.

Ever since I was a kid back in the 1990s, I've heard Ready for the World (RFTW) songs on various mediums in which you can play music on. But the year 2022 is when I first got a chance to listen to an entire album from the group, and I was impressed.
The Ready for the World (1985) album was a mixture of slow love songs, up tempo pop jams, some love lorn or jaded love up tempo songs, and etc. There's even a song on the album that it isn't wise to listen to if you just broke up with your girl (you have to buy the album to see which song fits that description).
Lead singer Melvin Riley Jr. and his team of producers and backing vocalists put together a debut album in 1985 that focused on the groups' style of beat production and of course Riley's silky smooth vocal style. Riley's vocal style sat on top of some beats that were of the funk, electronic, keyboard synthesized, pop, and soul varieties.
After listening to this entire album more than five times in the past nine days, it's easy to tell that RTFW wanted this album to have crossover appeal, and they accomplished that. Many of the songs on this album got the group much radio airplay in the 1980s as well as appearances on Soul Train (your music had to be hot when your album came out to get on there) and other music shows.
The album was comprised of nine tracks in total, and six of those songs were released as singles in the 1984-1986 period. So that tells you that MCA Records wanted RTFW to get big fast and that they believed in the group.
Pros of Ready for the World album: Riley's crooning, begging, sultry, and smooth vocals. Yes, much of the beats on the album are serious ear candy, but Riley's vocal stylings were what brought the ladies (the albums' biggest demographic) to the album.
Cons of Ready for the World album: My only gripe with this album is that track nine, I'm the One Who Loves You, should have been released as a single (and it should have had a music video) over track three Ceramic Girl. I'm the One Who Loves You is one of the strongest songs on the album.
In conclusion, this album was more than just its biggest hit single Oh Sheila. This album had well put together beats, well put together vocal arrangements, and many of its songs' lyrics still stand up today when it comes to relationships or how a man should feel about a woman.

Memories.....Slide step & dancing real close!!!

To me, this is one of the best albums i owned back in the day. as always with me i was looking for the good dance songs to play( being a DJ ) and i didn't really focus on the slow jams. i was djing a party and a girl came up and requested a slow song and i really didn't have a lot ...i looked at my Ready For the world album and just picked one...that was "slide over"...Wow!!! the floor was full of couples. i then took a good look and found out that the whole album was filled with great "baby making love songs". A Virgin type love letter in "tonight"..."you're more woman than i ever seen, girl tonight"...that was the cut back in the day!...Everybody has had an out of town lover and this song helped us thru the long phone calls and gave us a dedication to our Ladies.they were the kings of the slow jam but they really brought it with JAMS that will never die like "Oh Shiela" and the "Digital Display"..."i never had a girl before...with much of a figure"....The group followed up with a few more albums and Melvin Riley ( the groups lead singer ) tried a solo project but they never captured the same magic as this first album although the second album is very good. this album is a prime example of the 80's music we were listening to back in Santa Paula,Ca. slow jams and doing the slide step from the video oh shiela...those are my memories from this album...thanks guys.... JC Cota [...]IF U DON'T OWN THIS ALBUM...WHAT ARE U WAITING FOR ...!
