This fall Universal Pictures and Walden Media will release the feature-length biopic Ray!, the never-before-told musical biographical drama of the late American legend Ray Charles. Featuring a remarkable performance from Jamie Foxx in the central role, Ray! follows the inspiring story of a one-of-a-kind genius. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Taylor Hackford (La Bamba, An Officer And A Gentleman), the film features Foxxs uncanny lip-syncing to classic Ray Charles tracks (utilizing the artist's original master recordings). Ray! is an inspirational story about an amazing artist and human being, with Ray Charles music at the film's very core.
（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）
Ray Charles truly was a "Genius". This is a great CD for the casual Ray Charles listener. Its also fantastic example of Ray Charles's talents. I believe everyone should own a copy of this disc. I can truly say that I use this CD everyday!
If you don't buy this CD you are really missing out on some great music.
My conclusion; I love Ray Charles and his music but after hearing his music from the DVD in full Dolby 5.1, this CD is very disappointing. Put simply, it's like me taking my collection of Ray Charles Hi-Fidelity recordings and doing a straight transfer to CD. The music would be there but it would in no way sound like a modern day state of the art produced CD. And that's my problem; if the producers could make the film sound so good, they should have used the same music for the Soundtrack and used this collection of recordings labeled "The Originally Recorded Music" that inspired the movie Ray. That's my take for what it's worth.
It's been like 6 years since the late great Ray Charles left us dearly and man we are still talking about him today. Guess what the kind of legacy of music, memories, and stuff he left behind us? This man had it big way ahead of his time. He was blind at age 7 and never let his disability stop him or put him down, he just kept going until the very end. He was a great pianist by the way plus an extroadinary singer who visualize and develop many genres of music from blues, jazz, r&b, soul, funk, country, etc. Addition to piano, he also play the alto sax, clarinet and sometimes the trumpet as I was reading from Brother Ray: Ray Charles' Own Storyand Ray Charles: Man and Music, Updated Commemorative Edition.
Each and every song is totally stand Genius all the way through from Georgia on My Mind, Hit the Road Jack, Unchain My Heart, I Can't Stop Loving You, I Got a Woman, Hallejuah I Love Her So, Let the Good Times Roll and more. He can go fast and slow, high and low all in one.
How can you translate or simplified music altogether without even mentioning Ray Charles or the others like James Brown, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Bird, Miles, Coltrane or Bob Marley for example? Those people I mention you can disguise they provide a great retrospective within their souls and hearts in their art.
If you wanna know the real history to get to study the works of this great man, re-look into all his earlier albums up from Swingtime, to Atlantic, to Tangerine. That's my real recommendation if you want to dig even deeper. My other recommendation is read his autobiography he co-written with David Ritz and the other book from Mike Lydon. It'll change your life completely.
