John Scofield didn't even own an acoustic guitar when Pat Metheny brought along a pair of them for the guitarists' 1993 duo session, "I Can See Your House From Here". Scofield was so intrigued by the experience that he went out and bought his own nylon-string instrument, spent hours playing it and ultimately composed eight pieces especially for his new plaything. Those eight tunes (plus a ninth by producer Steve Swallow) comprise Scofield's album, aptly entitled Quiet. Scofield was too smart to simply transplant his electric-guitar techniques--which rely so heavily on distortion and attack--to the acoustic instrument. Instead, he took advantage of the nylon strings' intimacy and responsiveness to compose romantic melodies and play them in a clean, understated style.--Geoffrey Himes

ときどき聴きたくなる作品群。
技巧というより芸術的。
癒しのサウンド。

アコギで一音一音無駄な音が無く、弦に対してデリケートなタッチで弾いているなぁと感じる。

自分もこのようなタッチでプレイできればと・・・。

曲自体もいいので、ギター好きの人以外の人にもお勧めです。彼の作品の中では評価が低そうだけど、

一音一音を大切に聞ける人には、たまらない作品だと思う。

Eine untypische aber sehr schöne CD von Scofield! Wer auch leisere Töne mag wird hier gut bedient! Auch Wayne Shorters Einlagen sind auf aller höchstem Niveau und sind sozusagen die Kirsche auf der Torte, wenn man das so sagen darf!

Secondo me la cosa migliore del disco è l'orchestrazione, gli assoli di aìwaybìne shorter.
Nulla posso dire sulla tecnica di scofield, ma si sente che il suo tocco e il suo fraseggio non è fatto per una chitarra clasica. Lo preferosco con i suoi suoni elettrici più blues e funky.

One of Scofield's most unexpected and sublime albums, probably not noticed nearly enough... superb arrangements, more melodic than most of his work, soulful... a total gem, for Scofiled fans and otherwise. Listen to it five times, and you'll understand

One word describes it best: uninspired. It's as if they painted the word "Quiet" all over the walls of the recording studio. I think there's only one song where Wayne Shorter sounds inspired. Even he sounds like he's just been to the dentist and the drugs haven't worn off yet. On the positive side: it's great background music when you have no intention of listening.
