"Brings back many memories for me. I just wish my Dad was still here to see your wonderful photos. He would have gotten the biggest kick and memories from Wrigley Field. Wonderful!!! " Tim Dooley. This comment is typical of those who have purchased Pro Football at Wrigley Field. With over 240 photographs by photographer Ron Nelson, this 106 page book is filled with the great stars of the 60's who played in the NFL. Text is by Beth Gorr and the forward is by Ronnie Bull. Quotes by Mike Ditka, Ed O'Bradovich, Doug Buffone, Gale Sayers, Mike Pyle and Maury Youmans reveal what is was like to play football at Wrigley Field. This is a must for football fans and those who enjoy looking at the action of the game. A must for your collection.

After a brief introduction by the author/photographer, a 1 page commentary by Bears running back, Ronnie Bull, and a page and a half recap of the 1963 NFL Championship game between the Giants and the Bears, there is very little text in the rest of the book.
The photographs (all black and white) are mostly action shots of games played at Wrigley Field taken on the sidelines and are very good. But, be warned, you better be familar with the era (1960s) or have a program, because NONE of the pictures are captioned.
The little text in the book that appears outside of what was mentioned above, is a brief one page capsule of each team in the NFL from the 1960s and what they did in those 10 years. Also included are the scores for each team in their games at Wrigley in the 1960s, though this is not made clear. Teams back then played each other twice a year, home and away. The book just gives the year and 1 game score. It would have been nice to have had the date included in addition to the year and score for each game.
There was at least 1 mistake in the scores and it's a glaring one...the famous game that Gayle Sayers scored 6 TDs against the San Francisco 49ers that was played in 1965 was reversed with the score from the Niners game played in 1964! (Also, NO pictures from that game appear in the book, a BIG omission.)
This is a nice book if you want pictures of the Chicago Bears playing against other teams in the NFL in the 1960s. But, that's all you're going to get. If you want a descriptive history of Pro Football at Wrigley Field, look somewhere else.
I have a few different books that contain a few of these iconic pictures, but I've not seen most of them before. All of the pictures are black 'n' white, with terrific clarity, and laid out well on the pages. I believe the time-frame covered is 1961-1969.
After 25 pages of assorted Bears shots, the pictures are then grouped by opponent, with each one getting a respective chapter. There's some intro text for each chapter or section, and although there are some typos it's solid, factual reporting. The bottom line, though, is this book is about the pictures, and on that note it couldn't be done better. My only complaint is that it's "only" just over 100 pages. I would have loved to have seen what hit the cutting room floor! For the price this is a steal...
