Enjoyed the first half2015年3月21日に英国でレビュー済み
Short book of 150+ pages. Enjoyed the first half, but it really goes offbeat in the second half and becomes very fragmented, almost as if Byrne lost interest in pursuing the early childhood intimacy of the early chapters and kind of rushed to a conclusion. It made me think the guy is intensely private and his move from Hollywood to the anonminity of New York reflected that. The book is old, only covers up to about 1994, and his docu from about 2008 (Stories From Home) is a deeper reflection on his life post 1994. A great read early on, but he kind of extracts himself from the second half of the book. Wonderful reflections of his upbringing in Drimnagh and Walkinstown included. I guess I'm bias, because that's where the book began and ended for me, and the real Byrne kind of also exited stage left at that point too in the book. Byrne is more than just an actor, a great writer of prose.
