Join Deepak Chopra on a wondrous journey. . . "The Path to Love." Philosophical, inspiring, and ultimately very practical, The Path to Love is a book that can change lives as it invites the spirit to work its wonders on the most complex and richly rewarding terrain of all: the human heart.
Falling in love feels like an accidental occurrence to many people, but in spiritual terms it is not--it is the entrance point to love's journey. Romance has several distinct phases of its own for us to explore--attraction, infatuation, courtship, and intimacy--each partaking of a special spiritual significance.
In the dawning of the next stage, falling in love turns into a committed relationship, usually marriage, and the path changes. Falling in love is over; being in love begins. Spiritually, the word being implies a state of the soul; it is this state that a couple learns to nurture through surrender, the key word in every spiritual relationship. Through surrender, the needs of the ego, which can be extremely selfish and unloving, are transformed into the true need of the spirit, which is always the same--the need to grow. As you grow, you exchange shallow, false feelings for deep, true emotions, and thus compassion, trust, devotion, and service become realities. Such a marriage is sacred; it can never falter because it is based on divine essence. Such a marriage is also innocent, because your only motive is to love and serve the other person. Surrender is the door one must pass through to find passion. Without surrender, passion is centered on a person's craving for pleasure and stimulation.
With surrender, passion is directed toward life itself--in spiritual terms, passion isthe same as letting yourself be swept away on the river of life, which is eternal and neverending in its flow. The final fruit of surrender is ecstasy: when you can let go of all selfish attachments, when you trust that love really is at the core of your nature, you feel complete peace. In this peace there is a seed of sweetness perceived in the very center of the heart, and from this seed, with patience and devotion, you nurture the supreme state of joy known as ecstasy. This, then, is the path to love described in much greater detail in my new book, although it isn't the only path. Some people do not fall in love and enter into relationships with a beloved.
But this does not mean that there is no path for them, only that the path has been internalized. For such people, the Beloved is entirely within themselves from the very outset. It is their soul or their image of God; it is a vision or a calling; it is a solitariness that blossoms into love for the One. In its own way, such a love story is also about relationship, because the final realizations are the same for all of us. To realize "I am love" is not reserved only for those who marry. It is a universal realization, cherished in every spiritual tradition. Or to put it most simply, all relationships are ultimately a relationship with God.

I have something called PTSD that also contributed to my cold heartedness. If you are looking for something to help HEAL the heart and become open to love once again, this book is for you.
I also got this book because I needed a break from reference books, something I'm prone to buying. This book actually tells stories on love and encourages the welcoming of love. Not only that, but it also opens the mind and reminds you of what love truly is. Something I believe I had forgotten over time or possibly dismissed as setting myself up into vulnerability in order to get hurt. Not so.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, particularly those who have lacked the ability to acknowledge their higher self and the ability to love.
However, I cannot recommend the service provided by Amazon and its vendor when I placed a second order for the book. After my order was placed (and charged to my credit card), I was notified that it would not ship for about two weeks. Then, I was told that I could not change my order. Indeed, I did change it by writing to the vendor and asking to have it canceled. Turns out, she (vendor) was able to ship the book sooner, and, in fact, was on her way to ship it when she discovered my email message. But, her tone with me in her email response was so offensive, that I asked her to cancel my order, remove the charge from my card;and recommended that she have a discussion with Amazon.
Clearly the two vendors were giving out conflicting information. I think, however, that what will remain with me is her tone in her message. I was so offended that I will not order from this vendor
again and I extend my offense to Amazon as well. No customer should have to endure this amount of grief with a vendor for reasons beyond his/her control. Amazon and Ginger: Get it together here. There are other booksellers on the internet and the competition is pretty fierce.
At times, I found his writing to be quite cerebral, littered with theory. I found myself having to read certain chapters over again to feel like I was getting the true sense of what he was trying to get across. It's certainly not a sit back and read at the beach type of read for me... but rather a text that I felt compelled to delve into and study.
In "The Path to Love," Deepak Chopra blends modern day wisdom with ancient insight and myths. This is a reflective study of love's many stages (from romantic love to spiritual love) and as Deepak reveals the many nuances he also explains the spiritual goal of life. This book uncovers the reasons love is healing while anger and hate can be fatal.
There are quite a few case studies and the book is structured around stories of people struggling with everything from marital issues to questions about reality itself. Deepak acts as a psychologist who is solving issues one after the other. His clients have breakthroughs and each conversation reveals something new.
"Love and spirit are forming a connection every time you meditate on the heart, starting with the first time." ~ Deepak Chopra
For the most part this book reads like a comforting conversation with a trusted friend. There are instructions for a heart meditation. Then, a few questionnaires are included for your enlightenment. While this is not technically a workbook, it could be said that the contents of the book will change you as you answer the questions and discover hidden secrets about yourself.
