セカンド・アルバムに並ぶ彼らの重要アルバム。BTOの功績はハ-ドな音とメロディのわかり易さを両立させたことでしょう。シングル・カットされた◎You aint seen nothing yet ◇Roll on down the highwayの2曲にもそれが言えます。またデュアン・オ-ルマンに捧げたインスト、Free whellinも◎との両A面でNO.1ヒットになりました。あの時代これだけヘヴィなサウンドでありながら口笛を吹けるようなメロディを作り出したのは彼らだけです。もっと再評価されるべきバンドだと私見では思います。

この作品の中味は知っていましたが、久しぶりに、そして気軽に車内で聞く為に購入しました。
車の中で再生する事で、息子や娘にも聴いてもらいたかった。

代表作！先ずはこれから聴いてちょ・・・実は掟破りのハードロッカー。

頑丈な木箱に、チェーンソーの歯やギア、スプロケットがむき出しになっている・・・７０年代に本格派のハードロックを浴びるほどに聴いた者にとっては、非常に懐かしいジャケだ。

バックマンと言えば、イケイケ、ノリノリのハードブギばかりだと思うのは根本的に間違い。実は、緻密に計算された楽曲作りと曲順に彼らの妙がある。彼らのオリジナリティと言えば、ひたすら聞き易さを追求した点だと思う。たとえそれがハードロックの文脈から少々ハズレていてもだ・・・

聴き易さとは、ズバリ、シンプルかつキャッチーなリフにどれだけ印象的なメロディを絡められるかだ。曲を途中から聴いたリスナーにも、入りやすいような工夫が随所に記されている。その意味ではバックマンこそ、掟破りのハード・ブギ・ロッカーであろう。

現在（２０１１年）冷静になってこの作品だけでなく彼らの７０年代の作品を引っ張り出してきいてみると、その感を新たにしている。

個人的には、よく引き合いに出される、フォガットやＺＺトップというよりも、スレイドに近い存在でしょうか、あくまでポップ・センスという意味ですが。

ちなみにハード・ブギがメチャお好きなら、スコットランドのナザレスがおすすめです。やっぱ俺古いかな。

　バックマン・ターナー・オーヴァードライヴ（BTO）は、1970年にランディ・バックマンを中心として結成されたバンドで、初期のメンバーはランディを初めとする3人のバックマン兄弟にC.F.ターナーを加えた4人編成（3作目からティム・バックマンからブレアー・ソーントンへ交代していますが、あまり変化はないようです）。
　カナダロック・バンドというとまずザ・バンドですし、またアメリカの70年代前半のロック・バンドといえばエアロスミス、イーグルス、ドゥービー・ブラザーズ、C.C.R.、オールマン・ブラザーズ・バンド、グランド・ファンクなどどこかしら大らかで暖かみを感じますが、このバンドに限って言えば、どちらかというとブリティッシュ・ロックの系譜に属するような硬い音作りをしています。
　デビュー作が1973年の"Backman-Turner Overdrive"で、同年末の2作目"Backman-Turner Overdrive Ⅱ"が全米4位です。このデビュー時の勢いで作られたのが1974年発表の3作目にあたる本作で、全米1位となっています。2曲がシングル・カットされており、"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet"（邦題：恋のめまい）が全米1位、"Roll On Down The Highway"（邦題：ハイウェイをぶっ飛ばせ！）が全米14位となっています。BTOのアルバムで全米1位になったのはこの作品のみで、文字通りの最高傑作といえそうです。まず一枚、ということでしたら本作品をどうぞ。

３２年前のカナダからの鋭利なサウンドＣＤ発見！！

１９７４年リリース彼らの３作目・・・・邦題「恋のめまい」は日本でＢＴＯ頭角のポップなメロディー＆トゲトゲシイ水切りの良いカッティングギター、レコードは当時購入済でしたがアマゾン殿ＣＤ群を閲覧していたら見覚えのある木箱ジャケット写真を見つけ即購入の段取りをしました。　何せ当時はカナダ出身のバンドで個人的には偏見もありましたが、オランダ出身バンド　フォーカスに狂っていた事もあり、もの珍しさで購入しましたら「ムム・・・おぬしなかなか出来る・・・・・」何が良いのかと申しますとサウンド自体がキレがあり、味でたとえると真夏の仕事上がりの脱水症状に乾いた体内へ水分補給のための冷えたビールのイッキ飲みの後の爽快感で２杯目はゆっくりと味わい心地よいアルバムです。

　・・・・最近のバンドのシンプルさのルーツはここにあるのかもしれません・・・

　聞いて見てください、シャカシャカ、シャリシャリのギターカッティングが爽快です！！

69年生まれの私にとって70年代半ばの当たり障りないロックはリアルタイムじゃないのでイマイチ解り辛いです。特にエドガーウィンターみたいな個性も感じないしグランドファンクみたいに激しいわけでもないし明るいんだか暗いんだかもなくレコードで聴いても辛かった。

This Canadian rock band from the 70s has given us hits like "American Woman" and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" which sounds a lot like the Doobie Brothers' "Listen To the Music" but they also had a great album which stands among the best ever classic rock albums ever released. This DTS 5.1 Music disc is very good for the most part although for some reason there is a patch in the middle of the chorus at around the 2-minute mark of "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" where we get extreme reverb and echo which sounds like a mistake and really shouldn't be there; it certainly wasn't in the original cd release and spoils the track for me.

Otherwise, the rest of the tracks sound just fine on my DTS system - do note that you will need a DTS-compatible amplifier to play this disc as it won't play otherwise. What makes this album so great is the wonderful power chords and great guitar riffing of the two lead guitars. Bachman's solos are also very tasteful and his phrasing shows just how good a guitarist he is. In fact, this album should be essential listening for all aspiring rock guitarists as it is a veritable smorgasbord of guitar solo stylings from precision bending to even slide guitar playing. Guitarists can learn a lot from this album.

The whole album takes a nice tongue-in-cheek jab at another contemporary progressive rock album of the time "Fragile" by Yes and is certainly like the evil twin to this other very good essential listening for aspiring guitarists album. Steve Howe of Yes by the way is perhaps the most complete guitarist who ever lived being equally proficient in classical, rock, funk, rockabilly etc playing styles and if you have him as a role model your future is very bright if you can stick to your goal. Putting aside the strange additional reverb effect in the middle of "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" this is a very good version of an all-time classic rock album if you have the DTS setup.

Dans mon inconscient collectif personnel, Bachman-Turner Overdrive étaient de joyeux bûcherons canadiens plus spécialisés dans l'abattage de séquoias de cent mètres de haut que dans la marquetterie fine.

Que nenni! Rien que dans Not Fragile, le premier morceau de l'album, malgré un riff que n'auraient pas renié les métalleux de Birmingham, un étrange solo de guitare que l'on croirait sorti d'un album de King Crimson vient infirmer cette ancienne impression de rudesse forestière. Pas étonnant, puisqu'à la fin des années soixante, le guitariste Randy Bachman avait failli s'associer avec Keith Emerson.

Ici le groupe a des similitudes avec Wishbone Ash: deux guitaristes solo, mais avec des duels moins systématiques, et un bassiste qui s'appelle aussi Turner ( C.F ici, Martin chez Wishbone Ash). Mais les ressemblances s'arrêtent là, BTO est beaucoup plus carré et rentre-dedans que le combo anglais.

Malgré une prédilection pour le riff à la Black Sabbath (avec un rythme plus soutenu) et une basse (Rickenbacker 4001) simple mais très efficace, Bachman-Turner Overdrive glisse souvent dans ses compos musclées des ruptures de rythmes, des petits passages acoustiques ou limite jazzy et des arrangements mélodiques habituellement absents de ce style de musique forgée dans un bel acier inoxydable.

Les voix sont puissantes, habituées aux grands espaces canadiens, les guitaristes sont de très bons techniciens (Randy Bachman-strat, canal gauche, Blair Thornton-Gibson SG, baffle droit). L'autre frangin Bachman, Rob, assure efficacement à la batterie.

Les compos sont de bonne facture, sculptées à la tronçonneuse, mais peaufinées de mains de maîtres.

Un groupe et un album sympas, simples mais assez originaux, même si je n' achèterai pas pour autant l'intégrale de BTO;

This 1974 gut grinder from these boys "up Canada way" was supposedly their best album ever. It actually DOES have several truly outstanding tunes on it, but the rest of it is what I would term "MUSIC TO RIP PHONEBOOKS IN HALF BY". By the way, the disc did arrive in more than adequate packaging and after about two weeks of being on order. This CD (like the one I just reviewed ('BTO-2" ) is another album that fits very nicely into the "musical comedy" genre. I'm sure that Randy and Fred and Blair and Robbie didn't have this result in mind, but THAT is PRECISELY what happened. I'm glad that the album was finally moved over to the CD format so that future generations can get a good laugh out of the disc. By the way, I really DO appreciate their efforts. Randy Bachman and Blair Thornton are both superb guitarists. Fred Turner is no musical chump either. Robbie Bachman does an excellent job on the drums and percussion instruments too.

Big in the 70s, BTO was a musical force to be reckoned with. Randy Bachman, along with Burton Cummings founded The Guess Who before Randy went his own musical direction. I had the good fortune to see Bachman Turner Overdrive in concert and it was one of the best concerts I'd ever seen. Not just the music, the polish, the sound quality and professionalism was stellar. This is arguably one of, if not the, best album BTO produced. If you're a fan of the 70s style of rock and you don't know this album-get it. You won't be sorry.
