GREAT album, TERRIBLE sound on the 2006 "remastered" CD

New Traditionalists GREAT album, TERRIBLE sound on the 2006 "remastered" CD! The sound is so muddy and flat (no treble, just dull bass) that I can't believe it's a legitimate record company issue. Thankfully, Amazon refunded my purchase price. I remember hearing New Traditionalists on vinyl decades ago. Perhaps I'll seek it out in that format, or buy an older CD version (I think even an 8 Track would sound better than this CD).
5 Stars for the Music, ZERO STARS for the CRAPPY MASTERING

Some people love this album, some people don't. This was my first Devo album, and I love it. ENough said. I bought this edition - "Collectables" label - as I incorrectly believed that by 2005 they'd be able to remaster an album such as this that would yield better sound quality than any of the older CD editions you'd find here, some of them as double albums.... Well I was wrong. The CD sounds as if was mastered from an 8-track tape as it sounds awful! I sure hope Rhino or some other label would give this album the respect it deserves and remaster it from the original tapes. Skip this edition as it sucks. Until there is a better version, spend some extra money and buy a Japanese pressing instead.

Have two versions of the original vinyl but even with digitizing from the turntable I was still curious of how a commercial mp3 would sound. The original recordings had a slightly denser, fuzzier sound due to all the technical problems Devo had in the studio during recording and production of NT. It is instantly obvious that this version is indeed remastered as it is sharper with the mid-high and high brought forward. Not a bad thing by any stretch so overall very happy to play with this on the daw.
One of my favorite Devo albums

One of my favorite Devo albums! Devo at their peak. This is the remastered Warner Brothers edition with bonus tracks. As a Devo fan, I had to have it! New Traditionalists
Devo's most underrated.

New Traditionalists suffers from a bad reputation of "Oh, this is where Devo sold out." Au contraire! Yes, they drop much of the sarcasm and just come right out and say what they mean ("Through Bein' Cool"), but musically, this is the equal of Freedom of Choice. Hooks galore, the synths don't sound as dated (to me) as they do on most other LPs of this time period, and some quality lyrics (the turn on a dime in "Beautiful World" still thrills). No, it's not the same jagged, jerky post-punk of Are We Not Men, but it's still great.
