NEBADOR - the incredible journey of five young adults from poverty and oppression to respected citizenship in the wide universe ... Stepping into a new civilization can be very challenging, especially when very few of your new friends look anything like you. Trouble awaits in every hall and balcony of the star station, and each misunderstanding could get you a one-way ticket home. - Mati, one decision away from walking again, isn't sure she wants to - the price, for both her and Rini, is unexpectedly high. Kibi fails a test of the heart - to fix it, she must set her feet on a path she's not sure she'll survive. Sata and Boro stand beside their friends, but sometimes regret it. Ilika watches it all, wishing he could hide on some backward little planet. But occasionally, everyone needs to come home. - Although the adventure continues, BOOK SIX: STAR STATION concludes Trilogy Two, and is the final book of the essential NEBADOR saga. These stories are filled with wit-sharpening and skill-honing challenges - mental, emotional, and spiritual - for both the characters and the reader. It is truly a grand adventure in which the characters come to understand a beloved saying of the Nebador Transport Service: Personal power is the ability to stand on your own two feet, with a smile on your face, in the middle of a universe that contains a million ways to crush you. - This book includes the short story "Neti's Temptation" by Karen Buchanan, winner of the 2011-12 Nebador Writing Contest. - This is the PAPERBACK GLOBAL edition in 10-point type.
Born in the Mojave Desert, J. Z. Colby now lives and writes deep in a forest of the Pacific Northwest. - He has studied many subjects, formally and informally, including psychology, philosophy, education, and performing arts, but remains a generalist. His primary profession as a mental health counselor, specializing with families and young adults, gives him many stories of personal growth, and the motivation to develop his team of young critiquers and readers. - All his life, he has been drawn toward a broad understanding of human nature, especially those physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual situations in which our capacity to function seems to reach its limits. He finds fascinating those few individuals who can transcend the limits of our common human nature and the dictates of our cultures. - In his spare time, he flies helicopters and airplanes. - Karen Buchanan, 15, is a native of Quebec, Canada. She speaks both English and French fluently, is learning Spanish, and wants to learn German and Chinese someday. But she has discovered, in the last year, that there are much more important things in life, and is considering literature or art history at university.
The Nebador series by J.Z. Colby is a great read for the entire family. Many topics come up in the series that are trending today as well as topics that are controversial. The author also shows the need for education and a clear head thru out the series, that the characters must need to learn. And as the reader we can also learn some of their lessons in the story, some even with diagrams to help aid in understanding.
In book 6 "Star Station," Our favorite characters finally get to the outpost. Even after speaking and seeing another species on a video monitor. Nothing could really prepare them for the culture shock waiting for them. "Walking in some one elses shoes" is a great saying until they actually have to take it literally.
I really like this series. There is a few things i dont totally agree with though through the story. Some of the character interaction some times seems off. For example seems lacking in conflict when i feel there should be. But in any case going along also with the storyline shows to a point why that isn't there. The characters that were chosen for a reason.
