Fantastic second book

This book is a must read picking up after book 1. Story of struggle, love and sacrifice of trying to survive the beyond what u can imagine. Megan/Claire faces unspeakable acts and is forced to try to make deals with 1 devil to escape a fate that even a victim of depraved kidnappers and rapists knows would be far worse than the slow death of spirit and soul she is valiantly surviving. Yet the book far from being overly dark and depressing manages to convey the strength and resilience of one woman's struggle to live free from the ownership of men who buy and sell girls. Megan's love for Nick remains constant and his struggle to protect and free her brings a depth to his character enhancing the love story of the two. Can't wait for book3

I'm sure I'm not the only one when I say that Nearly Mended blew me away. It took me a while to actuallty get to it, but I really wish I had read the book sooner. I absolutely loved it!
I thought the first book, Nearly Broken, was likable but not as amazing as I wanted it to be. Nearly Mended was a thousand times better, in my opinion. It did surprise me because I hadn't expected it to be as dark, twisted and crazy as it was. And yes, these are very good things with a book like this. It just was so much more different than the first book and liked it so much more that I wish I could've given it more than five stars!
I don't know where Megan gets her strenght but I was very surprised by how strong she was in this book. She might've had a hard time in the beginning of the book, readjusting and everyting but once she gets taken again by Zander she's doing everything she can not to break down. There's a different factor this time around, though. I won't reveal what it is, for the sake of spoilers but damn, such a good twist!

hook, line, and sinker

After finishing (and loving) the first book in this series, I almost immediately started reading Nearly Mended, and found myself wondering where the magic from the first book went. While I understand the author's plot ideas, it just fell a bit flat. While the characters were still interesting, the suspense from the first story wasn't nearly as "cliff dangling" but you could definitely still feel the suspense.
There were parts of the story that really did hook you in. In fact, I spent my entire lunch break reading on my phone instead of grading a huge stack of papers. Regardless, it definitely left me reeling, questioning, confused, and wondering WTF.
There were elements of the story that made me uncomfortable to read, but I'm almost positive that that was the point of the story. It's definitely not a happily ever after type story.

Devon Ashley wrote a page turner that holds one tragic twist after another. My feelings were are all over the place.
The first 50% OH. SNAP
The last 50% HO. LEE. CRAP.
I HATE ZANDER. Or…Do I? GAH....
YES, I HATE HIM. THAT…TWISTED. SICK. MIND FREAK.
Nearly Mended picks up three months after Megan has gotten away from Zander. A rapist and stalker who believes she belongs to him. Megan and her boyfriend Nick are trying to regain some semblance of a life. Instead they find themselves living a life no one would want constantly looking over their shoulders afraid that she’ll be taken. AGAIN.
Megan truly feels that it is only a matter of time before this happens. These past few months she and Nick have been distant and it deeply hurts her. She can barely stand to be touched and knows that this affects him. In Nick’s mind Megan is EVERYTHING, he just wants the old Megan to come back to him.
Ahhh, the beauty of a story being told with dual points of view! **GRINS like a Cheshire cat**
*Le sigh* I TRUELY LOVE Nick! And you will too!
Things may be at a stale mate for these two in their relationship but he truly loves her and is willing to do anything for her. That includes working at a boring dead end job inside a small cubicle which is nothing like working a busy kitchen at a top restaurant as a chef. While his day to day has him stuffed in said cubicle hers includes a self defense training class and coffee with a fellow survivor from her class.
Nick and Megan have been doing everything right, they uprooted themselves and moved, they are watchful of their surroundings and have little to no contact with their families. But is it ever enough?
It’s not long before Megan’s worst nightmare comes true and this time it’s one hundred times more devastating.
As she predicted Megan is taken for the third time in her life. She plays along with his sick twisted game and in doing so she begins to feel things she shouldn’t.
Playing along means accepting him… She must ensure her survival only this time there are a few things that she does not know.
Important things that change EVERYTHING… including her survival rate.
My Thoughts
Clever, suspenseful and at some points even downright disgusting, these are all words I’d use to describe Nearly Mended. Devon Ashley completely surprised me in this book. I found her writing strong, her characters cunning and the story kept me on the edge of my seat up to the very last page. There is a character in this book that we never even meet yet he plays a BIG role in the major in parts of the story. You find yourself hating someone – a character unknown.
My only teeny tiny complaint is that there are a few grammatical errors which is something I usually don’t bring up in reviews. In this case it was enough for me to think about it while typing my review so in it goes.
My Rating and Why
I gave Nearly Mended 4 STARS because the story and characters still weigh heavily on my mind and heart and its days later. Although at times I found myself cringing at certain scenes, my eyes remained glued to my kindle because the story is a true page turner.
