I usually don't feel it is necessary to review 35 year old records, but in this case, I just wanted consumers to be aware of one major issue that I have with spending close to $40 big ones for this CD!! THE QUALITY!! It is not bad, but it certainly isn't worth spending $54 (AMAZON price) for. I bought a two-fer, "Natural High and Midnight Magic" back in 1987 and I always felt that my original LP record had more fidelity than the Motown CD did. So, I was always hoping that someone would reissue the "Natural High" CD in true audiophile quality! When I saw that the title was reissued last November,(2012) out of Japan, I was more than ready and willing to fork over 40 dollars. I received it and WAS NOT blown away by any means. I decided to compare it with my 1987 CD version and I could not really detect a difference. (If anything, the '87 CD sounded a tad better!) What really frosted me was that several songs have been on various Commodores' compilations and the quality on those compilations were far superior!!
Don't get me wrong, even though the quality is so-so, I have to still give "Natural High" a 4-star rating because the music is 5-STAR, TOP NOTCH!!! It is so rare that a Japanese CD is of equal quality to that of old American issues, but here is one of those rarities!! So, think long and hard about buying this Japan issue. Unfortunately, the CD is so hard to get, so this could be a "last chance" situation or maybe we will get real lucky and Motown will reissue it and beef up the fidelity!
Love, Love, Love Lionel Richie and the Commodores! Here's a gem of an album that's truly underrated. From hits like "Three Times a Lady" to grooves like "Such A Woman," the funk in this product just flies out of the speakers and makes you want to dance and sing along. Anyone who knows anything about Funk needs to give this a listen. You won't be disappointed!
