今年発売された「Native + 2 -Deluxe-」には「If I Lose Myself feat. Alesso <Alesso vs OneRepublic>」と「Love Runs Out」が入っています。

OneRepublic is back and better than ever
OneRepublic is my favorite band, and I've been waiting for years for them to release a new album. Their sound is unique and they play with a lot of different styles, so their music always feels fresh to me.
Counting Stars - A catchy start to the album in which Tedder's voice is front and center, accompanied by the kind of beat that makes you bob along in the car while listening.
If I Lose Myself - This song demonstrates one of the band's strengths: dreamy music with lyrics that ache with longing, segueing into an electronic dance beat, and finishing with Tedder crooning while a subdued piano plays in the background. It doesn't seem like the sort of combination that should work, but it does. Try to listen without tapping your feet, I dare you.
Feel Again - The first single off the album is an upbeat, hand-clapping song about redemption by love that has a classic, arena-rock feel to it.
What You Wanted - Sounding like a bit of a throwback to the eighties, this song is stripped down, Tedder's voice set off by an electronic beat, some background crooning, and a chorus featuring a lush, trilling electronic piano run, with a lovely, muted piano solo near the end.
I Lived - An anthem to a life well-lived, this song feels like a chant, one guaranteed to get a crowd singing along and bouncing. It starts off with some simple guitar and adds some bass and a drumbeat. The chorus adds some background vocals singing in harmony with Tedder, which gives it a nice depth, then the song finishes with an acoustic sound, voices singing wordlessly in time with the beat, giving it a folksy feel.
Light It Up - This song has officially replaced Secrets as my favorite by the band. The grungy sound coupled with the twanging guitar and thumping base is fantastic and when coupled with the raw sound of Tedder's falsetto, the song becomes sublime.
Can't Stop - Tedder's plaintive falsetto and the longing lyrics blend seamlessly with the distorted feel of the song, creating a driving pop sound filled with romantic angst. This song is the sort of pop perfection that's made Tedder a favorite of collaborators like Adele, Leona Lewis, and Beyoncé.
Au Revoir - Melodic strings and piano provide the backdrop for Tedder's sad lyrics and the hopelessness expressed in his voice. The overall effect is stark, desolate. Need a sad song to listen to post-breakup while crying and eating ice cream? This is the one.
Burning Bridges - Pop music at its finest. Polished and slick with catchy, swooning lyrics, this song reminds me of what I love about well-crafted pop music. It would make a great addition to the mix tape you're making for your crush.
Something I Need - A lively tribute to love with a sort of chanting chorus featuring some nice vocal harmony, a march-like beat, and some simple piano notes. There's a sort of old school feel to the song that's very appealing.
Preacher - Adding yet another dimension to the album, this song shines with soaring gospel sound. Tedder sings earnestly about his grandfather, the preacher, accompanied by a choir. This song has one of the best lines on the album, Tedder crooning that "he was a million miles from a million dollars, but you could never spend his wealth".
Don't Look Down - A short finish to the standard album, this song weaves dreamy electronic sounds with Tedder's voice singing in the background, and adds in a chorus of voices singing wordlessly.
In short, this is exactly the album I've been waiting for. The more I listen, the more I appreciate the variety of styles OneRepublic has brought to the table with their album. Though the wait was worth it, here's hoping there won't be as long a delay between this album and their next, especially because this is a band that seems to get better and better with every album they release.

I have a shirt that says `Ryan Tedder is God'. I've kind of been obsessed with him for a while now. Seeing OneRepublic in concert was the kicker for me, since every word that fluttered from his lips was kissed with this heavenly aura and just gave me chills. His voice is a godsend and I'll debate that to death with anyone. As a producer and a song writer, he's impeccable. With all of that said, I have yet to be completely won over by the entirety of a OneRepublic album, and `Native', their third outing, is no different. I really like this album, as have I liked `Waking Up' and `Dreaming Out Loud', but there is always this feeling of `unfinished work' associated with their albums for some reason.
They feel incomplete.
Despite the fact that Tedder can produce and write killer hooks, and he shows that off on his own albums as well as those of others, he tends to run out of ideas on a collective front. His albums carry this stigma of `filler track' that pollutes their impact. While tracks like `If I Lose Myself' and `Can't Stop' are beautifully composed and original in conception and execution, tracks like `Counting Stars' and `I Lived' feel like variations of their previous works. I really want them to deliver an album that feels perfect from start to finish, but they recycle their sounds too often.
Evolve, please. I know you can!
Despite my issues with the album as a whole, the fact remains that what they present is very good. Even the familiar tracks are still above average and better than the majority of what we hear on the radio. `Au Revoir' and `Burning Bridges' and beautiful songs with such poetic melody, and the upswing on `Feel Again' will play perfect on the stage. They have a knack for creating songs that feel like a movement, with `I Lived' (despite feeling like something I've heard them do before) being almost anthem worthy and `Something I Need' containing a killer chorus that will get the whole car chanting in unison.
So, `Native' is a very good album but I wanted it to be perfect. Instead, OneRepublic continue with their trend of consistent, likable music that lacks carries the promise and potential of creative genius but fails to live up to it in the long run.

Außerordentlich gute Popmusik

1. Counting Stars: Unwiderstehlich melodischer Auftakt von 'Native'. Eigenständige Pop-Musik der Champions-League. 5/5
3. If I lose myself tonight: Jetzt wird es wieder schön und kuschelig. Dieser Midtempo-Song ist einfach ein perfekter Popsong. Punkt. 5/5
5. What you wanted: Drums und Gesang dominieren in diesem Midtempo-Song. Durchaus melodisch, aber nicht genug Abwechslung. Es fehlt der explodierende Refrain. 4,5/5
6. I lived: Nur Akustik-Gitarre, dann Drums, dann wird es richtig hymnisch. Schöner Wechsel von leise und bombastisch. Dazu noch sehr melodisch. Am Ende gibt es noch ein Extra-Ooo. Fein fein. 5/5
8. Can't stop: (Für meine Ohren) Unschöner Falsett-Gesang in der Strophe.
11. Something I need: Fängt ruhig an, aber dann platzt die Melodie-Bombe. Und wie! Sensationeller Gute-Laune-Song. 5/5
13. Don't look down: Kurzes Outro. (Ohne Bewertung)
Bonus:
14. Something's gotta give: Ziemlich schräger Anfang. 1,5/5

Radiokompatibel also.

OneRepublic make One awful choice to create a commercially successful pop album!
OneRepublic's first album is still my favourite. Stop and stare was the song that made me buy the album and I had also heard the remix of Apologise and thought that was a great, moving pop song. It wasn't long before Ryan Tedder was 1 of my favourite singer/songwriters and OneRepublic one of my favourite bands. What attracted me to the band was genuine songwriting, honest and emotional lyrics and amazing music with real instruments, including a cello player, which was the main reason this band was so unique. For the second album Ryan said he chose to write music for entertainment instead of making all heart on his sleeve music; that it was okay to not write about his feelings. Although the music was a bit different it was not a drastic change and it didn't take long to grow on me and I see it as a brilliant album with incredible songs like Secrets and Good life. It still had a unique OneRepublic feel to it and still had great songwriting throughout. I have more appreciation for OneRepublic's early material now more than ever. That is because I have listened to this album. A good few bands I have liked have made music so far removed from what made me attracted to them in the first place and have had the same reaction from me. It just makes me look back and appreciate how amazing they were.
After 3 years since the last album Waking up was released the band released Native. Ryan says the main inspiration for this album was his fascination with humanity, our time and how we spend it. In the 'thankyous' all Brent says is 'thx :-)'. I feel like that is a reflection of about how much effort was put into this album. I don't know if Ryan was thinking this is a modern, futuristic sound and what people want nowadays but to me it seems like they had a discussion about how they only used actual instruments for most of the 1st two albums and decided to create most of this album on a PC and keyboards! A user commented on Waking up's review that if you don't appreciate the classical side of the band then you aren't appreciating them in their entirety and that is very true! All of that beautiful instrumentation is null and void here. A year before the album was released the band stated that they were "not rushing it", saying that the album "has to literally be the best thing we've ever done". When a band makes a pretentious statement like that you know it's not good. Angels and airwaves said the same thing about their last album and guess what it was far from their best! OneRepublic have sold out to meet the awful tastes of today's average chart listener.
When I listened to the album I thought Ryan's voice had altered but after listening to a song each from the 1st two albums I realised that it hadn't altered; he was using his voice in a different way. What is also making him sound differently is that they have auto-tuned the hell out of his voice so that he sounds like most other singers in the singles chart. Although the music is a far cry from their previous albums, lyrically most songs are still interesting. Tedder may have been instrumental in making an awful choice musically but this is the same man who has written some amazing songs in the past with great lyrics.
Counting stars has a very deceiving beginning with acoustic guitar but then that keyvboard/synth sound kicks off which reflects the sound of the rest of the album. When I 1st heard it I thought it would sound like traditional OneRepublic but then it turned into something bad. It's got a catchy sound and that's what's helped it reach number 1 in the singles charts and become their highest charting single - reinforcing my point about writing for success. The song is slightly reminiscent of a couple of Waking up songs in that it 's about fame. If I Lose myself is definitely the best song on the album but it's quite repetitive with the second verse identical to the first. The song is about Ryan's fear of flying but I initially interpreted it as a love song. Feel again is another single with a catchy, uplifting sound featuring handclaps in the verses. What you wanted has bouncy synthesizers with Ryan exclaiming he'll do anything "If that's what you wanted". I lived is the start of a downward spiral with Ryan irritatingly stating "I did it all...I swear I lived". It does actually have acoustic guitar;1 of the only times a proper instrument is present. Light it up is 1 of the worst with a droning sound and distorted vocals. Can't stop is a standout because it's so unique with a moody atmosphere and a haunting chorus - highlight. Au revoir has piano and strings but is quite boring. Burning bridges is 1 of the better tracks and Tedder's screech at the end of the chorus is memorable. Something I need is ok with Ryan's friends and family chanting the chorus. Preacher is a highlight with a great, uplifting chorus. Don't look down is a short and bland synthesizer track. Something's gotta give follows suit with bouncy synthesizers in the chorus, sounding like an 80's reject track. Life in colour is an improvement with chiming keyboards in the verses and a joyful chorus.
The 3 acoustic covers are easily twice as good as the originals and are definitely the best songs on the deluxe edition. They are well produced covers with electronic sounds like the originals but with an acoustic backdrop, which makes me wish they all sounded like this in the first place.
If you can overlook that this is OneRepublic then this is a listenable album and it's OK but I'm acutely disappointed by such a radical transformation.
