In our modern age most people cannot bother to read reports like this as they want instant gratification in whatever way, including news stories, which can be shown by the way so many can be taken in by fake news, and make some pretty weird decisions. If I was an American, I would not have voted for either Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump, after all I do have some self-respect. You could argue that Trump offered more money in your pocket to the average American, which is at least something.
So, we all have heard and read stories about Russian involvement in the presidential election, the same way they meddled in our Brexit vote, and in other European elections. Mind you, as with the American election and Brexit we do not ultimately know how much difference this has made in the results, because we all know that a lot of people have no idea at times what they are really voting for.
With that out of the way here then we come to the actual report by Robert Swan Mueller III, Special Counsel to the Department of Justice. This Kindle edition is two volumes in length and there is a fully active table of contents to each volume, plus numerous active footnotes. Those unused to reading such documents before then please note that certain information is redacted, so although that information is hidden from us, we are given the reasons, due to privacy, the Grand Jury, to keep secret certain evidence gathering techniques, such as those which could give sensitive details about forensic gathering from computers, as well as information that if released could affect any ongoing investigations that could lead to further prosecutions.
Giving us introductions and summaries so we can see what was investigated and the definitions in US Federal Law that have to be considered to determine whether there is any probable cause to obtain a conviction in court. Also, this takes in constitutional matters and pre-determined meanings under current legislation.
Reading this some may be surprised by certain names coming up, such as Julian Assange, a man who played some part in the leaking of documents in the campaign, and Nigel Farage, although in the latter case there is no smear on his name, just that people in his orbit of acquaintances may have been able to offer assistance. Although it is interesting to note that as I write this it looks like a probe by the EU has been initiated due to the non-declaration of certain monies by Farage. In fact, as you read this report you somehow get the impression that you are reading somewhat a rogue’s gallery.
The first volume is about the inquiry into violations of US Law by Russian Intelligence agencies and their trying to disrupt democracy. The second volume is about obstructing the investigation. The first volume shows that there is not really any substantial evidence for conspiracy between Trump and his campaign and the Russian Government in trying to rig the election to gain a successful prosecution. The second volume which having read the first you will already read of lies and obfuscation carries on with this particular issue, and as we ultimately see this report does not exonerate Trump and there are questions relating to the President that still remain unanswered. Unfortunately for Trump he is perhaps at times his worse enemy, in that he obviously can show a quite fragile ego and will lie and prevaricate and encourage others to do so, because he wants to be seen as the best President ever, and that everyone loves him. Obviously reading this in its entirety will not be for everyone, but it still makes for an interesting read and should make you think about certain things a bit more.
