Mozart:Six Piano Trios
Mozart chamber music at its best.2012年12月8日に英国でレビュー済み
These works, except the early divertimento K254 and perhaps the last trio K564, in which most of the material comes from more than a decade earlier, belong among the greatest chamber works Mozart wrote but are not as popular as many of these. Period instruments are especially appropiate for this particular combination of instruments and for preserving its delicate balance. The members of the London Fortepiano Trio are outstanding exponents of the best British tradition in that field, and theirs is the version I return to most frequently. Just try the start of the trio K548 that opens the 3rd CD. Enthusiastically recommended.

Splendid recordings on period instruments! Adhering to repeats of both halves of the large movements provides a spacious listening experience. The length of these six trios, spanning two each on three CDs, benefit from a greater stature provided by the London Fortepiano Trio. Some of the present day recordings, restricted to three each on two CDs, do not observe as many of the repeats--giving the impression of something missing from the listening experience. The prolonged performances of these now not so easily acquired 1991 recordings are the most satisfying in my experience.
