LED ZEPPELIN Mothership: The Very Best Of (2007 UK 24-track double CD compilation digitally remastered tracks taken from all eight of the bands classic studio albums that have been personally selected by Jimmy Page Robert Plant and JohnPaul Jones complete with liner notes by respected rock journalist David Fricke) For years, as playlists and multidisc players put Led Zeppelin tracks into a mix, there was a perpetual need to adjust the volume when Zep came on. Their tunes languished in the haze of substandard remastering--until now, at least for the 24 tracks on Mothership and the final fullness of the new Song Remains the Same reissue. For its part, Mothership's crisper, warmer audio owes its heft to the troika of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, who helped oversee the mastering, bringing out untold shades even in the throes of "Heartbreaker" and the sinews of "No Quarter." It's an impressive sonic leap. Where tinny high-ends and muffled lows used to co-exist, fatter and louder depths prevail. It's ever more astonishing that Zep got on with just four blokes. You can quibble with the 24 tracks here (where's "The Ocean"?), but the band picked each track here, from the stone-cold locks ("Communication Breakdown" and "Stairway to Heaven," no, duh) to the robust throb of "When the Levee Breaks." As for "The Ocean," you can find that in fantastically full form, along with five other gems on the newly remastered Song Remains the Same, which shows up for 2007's holiday season on DVD, too. Only rarely have four lads from England made so memorable an auditory and visual blast. --Andrew Bartlett More from Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same Physical Graffiti Houses of the Holy Led Zeppelin I Led Zeppelin II Led Zeppelin III Led Zeppelin IV How the West Was Won In Through the Out Door 商品の説明をすべて表示する

私は移民の歌のイントロの「ロバートプラント」の雄たけびを聞いて完全にノックアウトされてしまったのだが
私が高校生の時に聞いたときとは違います
躍動感が!!
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

Many people have expressed over various media their disappointment with the sound. I have never understood that. I think the sound is truly superb - big, full, punchy, defined and bassy, just as I like it. Just as Led Zeppelin should be. The album has been remastered twice, though, and was reissued in 2014 using the remasters from that campaign. The edition I am speaking of is the original 2007 one. However, I have to admit that the 2014 one is even better.
Regarding the tracks chosen, they are mostly as you would expect, although I feel the omission of anything from the "Led Zeppelin III" acoustic, pastoral phase of their career is a mistake. The folky side of the band was an important one, and part of their development and changes too, just as much as the blues-influenced material. Listening to this compilation, you get the impression it was "hammer of the Gods" bombast all the way, which it certainly was not. Apart from that, though, this is a mighty collection. Highly recommended to casual fans in particular who wish to feel the power of the Zeppelin on occasions.

The music, on the other hand, is....well it's Led Zep, what more is there to say? 5 stars! Yeah you could quibble about omissions and some inclusions, but compilations will NEVER please every fan so expect to have a view of your own. Also, just to be a cynic here, the record companies still want people to buy other albums so why would they include ALL the most popular tracks?
It's a handy compilation to have on hand for when my internet/Spotify is down.

No need or point in going through a track-by-track rundown, except to say that most of the usual suspects are here, including one or two which most of us would happily have sacrificed for lesser known but perhaps better tracks from their relatively few albums.
I might have preferred Misty Mountain Hop (a tour de force for Bonham) instead of When The Levee Breaks, and I would have liked The Battle Of Evermore to have found favour in Page`s selection, Sandy Denny`s vocals lending a refreshing, pleasing poignancy after so much male chest-beating. (`Hey Ho!` indeed.)
It`s good to hear In The Evening and All My Love as the two final tracks, like a benediction.
Some songs had to be here: the opening four from their debut album are well chosen, Ramble On, Rock And Roll and Black Dog are essential, and if Whole Lotta Love were not present & correct, there might have been questions in the House - or at least in the garden.
Great sound, a near-perfect selection of Zep classics, not to mention an excellent booklet. We are indeed blessed.
Thanks, Jimmy. And thanks too to Percy, JPJ & the shade of Bonzo - channelling Thor, god of thunderous drummers!
Most of the best of the greatest.

Being a long time Zepp fan I am only too aware of the bad recordings of their music. Funny how such great songs of these standards can get recorded so badly.
I know they remastered there catalogue years ago so do not know how many times it has been done. I am not sure how much they can improve things either. This was ... made worse recently when I heard that you can IMPROVE the sound of CD tracks when converting them?! That was a mind melter for me and I kept asking myself how that could even be possible!
I am sure this collection is misisng a couple of tracks? Maybe I am wrong but I am sure there are tracks I used to listen to that are missing.
