People don't remember her from groove theory but I've followed her for years and she continues to shine and remain relevant. To those who know of course. Amazing album. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
One word to describe this album? Incredible. She and Laru have produced, yet again, another masterpiece, that most of today's music-listening audience will simply sleep on. I can't begin to tell you how affecting her music is. Just listen to the album, and you will be able to find a piece of yourself somewhere in each song. "No One Else" is a bonafide tearjerker for me and probably anyone else who has suffered the heartaches and heartbreak of love and have finally found their soulmate, the other half that romantically completes them. "Just Once" encourages us to keep on going and be ourselves no matter what, to live life as it comes, because hey, you only live once. "Weary" - My goodness. How many women can identify with the pure and precious words of this gorgeous song? I have been blessed to be able to listen to and appreciate the best! Amel and Laru have my undying respect, loyalty and affection. Much love to them! DON'T SLEEP ON THIS ONE! WAKE UP! IT'S MORNING!!!
As a fan of Amel Larrieux since her Groove Theory days, I always look forward to her releases. I've had MORNING for a while but still only truly like 5 of the 10 offerings which isn't that unusual given the fact that over time songs from her last cd, BRAVEBIRD grew on me. I'm not disappointed because I love her voice and the courage & energy it must take to continue to put her music out there despite the rigidity of today's music business.
My favorite tracks are: WEARY - a terrific, well written song that was an excellent lead single; NO ONE ELSE - a beautifully spare love song, her voice sounds so pretty on this track; TROUBLE - fun song; UNANSWERED QUESTION - beautiful lyrics & production and GILLS & FRILLS - again, beautifully produced track.
Fans will appreciate the new music but to those who are just discovering this artist, I'd recommend getting her debut disc prior to purchasing this one since the sound & overall vibes of the albums are so different.
What a beautiful offering from soul/folk singer Amel Larrieux. Although I wasn't a big fan of Groove Theory's and didn't purchase Amel's solo debut, Amel made a lifelong fan out of me with Bravebird and this follow up does not disappoint. Although I don't love every song on the album, the songs I do like are so powerful that I listen to the cd daily and never tire of it. Trouble is fun with a light feel to it. Unanswered Question speaks to anyone who has ever wondered how the person they loved felt about them in return. No One Else is a beautiful, self-explanatory ballad and Morning has a soothing tone. Weary is the most commercial song on the album and it is wonderful as well but my absolute favorites are the understated Gills and Tails, and the hauntingly beautiful Mountain of When. If you are a fan of Amel's, the only thing that will disappoint you about this CD is that there just isn't enough of it!
