Having stated this negative, it is the only one I have for this book. It has a soft cover, is plain and unobtrusive looking, and it comes with all the "accessories" I want in a journal: a ribbon bookmark, an attached elastic band to keep it closed, and a folder in the back to put extras in. It also has a good number of pages, and most important for me, comes in this unlined version.
So the book has thin pages but comes closer to perfection than any other notebook I've found. I think with some of us though, the very particular ones, the only way to obtain our idea of a perfect journal would be to make it ourselves. For those in this same demographic that are too lazy to do so, this Moleskine, for me at least, comes close enough.
However, I have to agree with another reviewer that the paper is very thin, so it is not practical to write on both the front and the back of a given sheet. Fountain pen ink and some kinds of gel ink show through strongly on the back of the page. Standard ballpoint does not show through (or only a little), but leaves imprinted tracks. I suppose one could paste clippings or photos on the back sides of the unused pages.
All things said, I plan to buy this notebook again when my present one is filled up. The solid construction and unobtrusive appearance have won me over. With less "inky" writing implements it is just fine.
Like many others have said, it is the perfect size. However, the pages are thinner than regular printer paper. This should not even be advertised as a sketch book. The paper is not even remotely art quality. I'm not one to write reviews, and I wont be returning it because I should have taken the time to more carefully read through the reviews, but I want to stop others from making the same mistake I did. I've ordered smaller moleskine sketchbooks before and didn't have the same issue with paper quality.
