5つ星のうち1.0A sort of sub-prime not-so-hot Top Gun with daft mystical bits thrown in.

Did finish this, but skimmed the last quarter. Overly simplistic and rather silly plot with cardboard characters and a lot of unconvincing space battles and other activities. Much better military sci fi around. And if you must refence ancient Greek Deities then please get their basic characteristics right! Greek goddesses weren’t etheral, benign “angels”, they were feisty, jealous, contrary, fickle and all too interested in Earthly delights.
I enjoyed this book, and look forward to more in this series. Initially I struggled to find my feet with the characters and storyline, I suspect this may have been more my problem than the writers as after a couple of chapters I found the book hard to put down.

I read my first Chris Rhere book because it was free, I read all the rest because they are fun and it is a pleasure to watch an author go from good to excellent. Metamorph as with all her books is a stand alone story with a satisfying ending that makes you want more without leaving you hanging. This is an entirely new universe from her excellent 'Targon Tales' series featuring unique, truly alien aliens. The plot is engrossing with lots of action and many twists. The characters are well developed and believable, their true natures are revealed throughout the story. They are easy to commiserate with or despise as the case may be. The scenes are very well described and vivid, it is easy to imagine myself there. I love the science, she makes believable and interesting extrapolations and explanations without letting it get in the way of the plot.
Chris has developed into an excellent writer and I can't wait to read what happens next. All in all a real page turner!
