内容紹介

From USA Today bestselling author, Leslie Langtry comes a mystery series of laugh-out-loud proportions...

When CIA agent Merry Wrath is "accidently" outted, she's forced her into early retirement, changes her appearance, and moves where no one will ever find her—Iowa. Instead of black bag drops in Bangkok, she now spends her time leading a young Girl Scout troop. But Merry's new simple life turns not-so-simple when an enemy agent shows up dead at scout camp. Suddenly Merry is forced to deal with her former life in order to preserve her future one.

It doesn't help matters that the CIA sends in her former, sexy handler to investigate…or that the hot new neighbor across the street turns out to be the local detective in charge of her case. And when Merry is forced to take on a roommate in the voluptuous form of a turned KGB agent/bimbo, things become trickier than wet work in Waukegan or cookie sales in the spring. Nothing in the CIA or Girl Scouts' training manuals has prepared her for what comes next…

Merry Wrath Mysteries:
Merit Badge Murder - book #1
Mint Cookie Murder - book #2
Scout Camp Mystery - short story in the "Killer Beach Reads" collection
Marshmallow S'More Murder – book #3

It is OK as female detective stories go.But I thought the main character's self-reflection was too over the top and pretty stupid sometimes.

5つ星のうち 4.0 Fun read! 2015/1/27

Super quick and fun read. Merry is a quirky, not-wanting-to-grow-up kind of gal. Most readers cannot relate to her, but can have a good laugh with her.

The book is a good introduction to Merry and her pre-CIA life, her CIA life, and her post-CIA life. Because it's the first in a series, it's left a little open ended at its conclusion.

Overall, the book is very clean. The writing is playful. The dialogue (inner and conversationally) is sarcastic, snarky, but realistic. The plot is not realistic, but who cares?!

The only thing I did not like about the book and the reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that Merry is a bit damsel in distress at times and boy crazy. It's almost like she's 15 rather than in her 20s.

I am most interested to read future books where we can meet Merry's parents, learn more about her missions in the CIA, and her growth into a more mature and hormonally-stable woman.

This book came at a great time for me because I was reading a very long and theoretically-driven book that was pissing me off. I decided to pause that book and read something completely different. I know how this author writes, so I chose this one to read. It's perfect for the beach, a long flight, or a foul weather day and snuggling under a blanket with lots of tea.

What DOES a CIA operative do when she's "outed" by a White House staffer and forced to flee killer chickens, yes - a chicken with a heat seeking missile strapped to its body and thrust in her direction? In this case, she changes her appearance and takes refuge in the small town where she spent her early years. As part of "normal" life, she becomes a Girl Scout troop leader at the behest of her best (and probably only) childhood friend. Our heroine's problem? She doesn't know how to do normal. Put her in a room and she can find a dozen ways to kill you (assuming you're a bad guy) but she doesn't know how to measure for drapes or otherwise decorate that room. But she's trying. Suddenly, corpses begin to appear in her vicinity (such as a Scouting camping trip); not just any corpses but some of the top terrorists in the world. Her new hunky neighbor, the one with the fully furnished house, turns out to be a police detective and her former handler, a hunk in his own right, appears to do damage control. Mayhem, murder, and mystery ensue with a dash of romance. Read this book if you're in the doldrums and want to be smiling - or just if you're sick of all of those fraught romantic suspense works that are cluttering the bookstores (and e-readers) these days.

Laugh out loud hilarity wrapped around a solid plot. In Merit Badge Murder, Lelsey Langtry had created a fast paced delight with believable central characters that you will want to get to know.

Retired (not by choice) CIA agent Merry Wrath has no basis for living a "normal" life; she has no clue how to fit into the suburban life even in the town where she spent her childhood. But when spies start dying all around her she is ready for action. Well kind of. She does still have her secret agent brain and skills, just not the tools she is used to or back up from headquarters. Fortunately when the CIA decides to investigate her, they send her old (actually young and hot) handler. Unfortunately he brings even more trouble with him.

I LOVED it.

I liked her first book because it was something different than what I have been reading, ex-spy gal sounded great. In this second book, she acts too dumb for being a CIA agent, it's bothersome. Now that they've made her character dumb, she'll probably stay that way which is a shame. I also think the books are too expensive at almost $5.00 each and who knows how many books they'll add to the series.

5つ星のうち 5.0 Zany, screwball comedy I couldn't put down. 2014/12/2

I absolutely loved this book, and hope that Leslie Langtry is currently locked in a room somewhere writing the next book for Merry Wrath. When I first saw the blurb "retired CIA operative moves to Iowa and runs Girl Scout group until random terrorists, drug dealers and Japanese Yakuza start turning up dead" I knew I had to read it.

I found myself, however, quite unexpectedly loving it. The characters are fun, the storyline is absolutely preposterous, and the way Merry skips from handler trouble, to new neighbour lust, to wondering whether or not to buy curtains, or cats or both was so light and amusing.

Merit Badge Murder is a light-hearted, highly amusing way to spend the commute too and from work. If you're looking for existential meandering about life and it's difficulties, this is the wrong book for you. However, If you're looking a light story that entertains, is amusing and allows you to suspend disbelief for a few minutes, then this is definitely what you're looking for.
